October At this $ime,~ ~. Claud, Chai~ma~ of the Public Welfare Department, submitted a tabulation of the various sl~es oSfe2edrfo~ cemetery purposes, which had been m~de by the City Ean~ger. Mr. Claud noted that the ~n~ger had failed to report on the piece of g~ound west of and s~ijoining OaX Grove Cemetery. ~nereupon, the Man~ger gave his reasons for not doing so. Mr. Herbert then moved that each Counoiim~n be furnished with a copy of the t~oulation, includir~ the ground referred to by Mr. Claud; that the E~nager be ~repared with a recommendation by the next meeting of the Council, and thmt the Council then vote on the matter. The motion was adopted° ~Lr. Herbert called attention to the resignation o£ E. Alexander Hatton as m member of<~he Board of Quarantine Commissioners for the District of Elizabeth River, which w~s accepted Dy the body September 25th, and he moved that a successor to Mr. Hatton be elected at this meeting. The motion w~s adopted. Then Dr. J. D. Collins was nominated for the position a~d, there being no other nominations, he w~s elected and by the following vo~e: Ayes--Bunting, Claud, Hanvey, Herbert, ~. ~Mr. Herbert moved that an mppro~riati0n of $6~ be m~de to ser~ a delegate ~o the meeting o~ the Southern Commercial Congress mn New YOrk City October 15-17th, l~l?. Adopted. He moved also that the ~yor be sent as such ~leg~te. The motion wms adopted. On motion, adjourned. October 16, 1917 At a regula~ meeting o£ the City Council October 16th there were present: Nessrs--T. A. Bunting, ~. P. Ci~ud, C. H. Herbert, W. H. Culpepper, 4.
