UNFINISHED BUSINESS The regular reports of Officers for the month of~0ctober, e~rdered to take the usual course. 1917, were presented and were NEW BUSINESS ~ A communication w~s re~i from the City Clerk stating to~ the Council ~hat he,does net desire to hold the office after January 1st and thanking the body for past favors. On motion, the communication was ordered to be filed. At this point, the City ~nager requested that an appropriation of $130. be made for improvements to the Court House yard, She balance, of the appropriation m~de some time since for~said improvements to be used with the $t30.~0, makita total of $250.00; provided, the -Norzolk County Board of Supervisors will appropriated ~150. to beused f~r said purpose. On motion, the appropriation ~f $13~. was allow~and by the following vote: Ayes--Bunting, Cl~ud, Hanvey, Herbert, Culpepper, Nr. Bunting moved that the Council go into an election to fill the vacancies on the body, caused by the resignation therefrom of Oscie Dmshiell and Jno. A.'Norris. The motion was adopted, and Mr. ~Bunting nominated Carroll D. Des~us to fill the vacancy caused by resignation of Nr. Norris, and M~v. Herbert nomi~ted Earl H. Wright to fill the oancy cmused by resignation of Mr. Dashieli; a~d there being no other nominations, they were elected by the following vote, the vote being the same for each: For--Bunting, Claud, Hanvey, Herbert, Culpepper,. Aoo~inst-- None. And on motions, the following other matters were referred to: Fiz~nce D~partment-- A de- cree of the Court of Hustings that the lien of all City taxes up to aud including the year ~em~lnl~ngunpaid on the Estate of N~thew C. Forbes be relieved. A ~petition of the Civil & Police Justice for his salary to be increased to $2,000. per year. ABeti~ion of the Manager of the Olympic Theatre to have rep~led the license tax of $2~0. per.y~, i~ an additional fee of over $~10 is ch~r~ed,$Qr entrance. A report of the City Collector theft Mrs. Lilley C. Hall requests to be refunded paid in error for ~axes for the year 1916. A petition of the Commissioner of the Revenue that certain parties be refunded amounts paid in erro~and certain other parties be relieved from payment of taxes. City Manager-- A report of the State Corporation Commission of assessed values of Tele- graph, Telephone, Express, Steamboat, Steamship, and Sleeping Car Properties in the State of Virginia for the Year On motion, adjourned.
