Recommending that a permit be granted to the United States Navy Department to <br />erect a w~ch box ~n ~he east side of First street at the intersection of Harrison street, <br />and ~o install thereon a light, in so far as the City's rights in the street are concerned. <br /> On motion, the recommendation of the Manager was adopted. <br /> <br /> Second. Stating that he is in receipt of a letter from the Supply Office, United States <br />Nmvy Yard, requesting an additional fire hydrant to be~placed in the vicinity of the'~nnex~ <br /> On motion, the request from the 'Supply Office was referred to the Public Service De- <br />partment for investigation ami report. <br /> <br /> Third. Stating that a difference has arisen between the Lighting Department of the Vir- <br />ginia Railway & Power Co. and the City in regard to the m~inten~nce of globes on the "White <br />Way." He stated that he had referred ~e matter ~o the City Attorney, who advised him that <br />the position which he (the City Man~ge~) had taken is justifiable. <br /> W~upon, on motion, the City ~emney was instructed ~o take such action as m~y be <br />necessary ~o compel the Virginia Railway & Power Co. to bear the expense of replacing elec- <br />tric light globes of the "White Way," ~r~k$~by their employees or through neglect of their <br />employees, under contract with the City ~ated Sept. ~, 191Z. <br /> <br /> Fourth. Advising 1~hat he ha~ had numerous interviews with various representatives of <br />the public utility corporations doing business within the City. He reported that the only <br />improvement noted, as a result of these conferences, has been the increasing of street car <br /> <br /> <br />
