Au,qust 13, 2002 Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE CLOSING AND VACATING A PORTION OF KILLIAN AVENUE." Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst Nays: None (e) S-02-03 WESTBURY NEIGHBORHOOD - Ordinance granting the request of Branch H. Daniels, Esq., for Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority for the closure of a portion of Barbour Drive between Elm Avenue and South Street. 1. Branch H. Daniels, Jr., 200 High Street Suite 500, spoke in support of this item. Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE CLOSING AND VACATING A PORTION OF BARBOUR DRIVE." Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst Nays: None (f) S-02-04 WESTBURY NEIGHBORHOOD - Ordinance granting the request of Branch H. Daniels, Esq., for Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority for the closure of a portion of Columbia Street and an unnamed alley south of County Street. 1. Branch H. Daniels, Jr., 200 High Street Suite 500, spoke in support of this item. Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE CLOSING AND VACATING A PORTION OF COLUMBIA STREET AND A PORTION OF AN UNNAMED ALLEY SOUTH OF COUNTY STREET." Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Randall, Whitehurst Nays: None - City Manager's Report - 02 - 243 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $244,208 in the Grants Fund for the 2003 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) #7 Program to be used to provide additional funding for public safety in support of Neighborhood Quality. These funds will be used for technology and equipment, training and crime prevention initiatives. The City's match will be $24,421. Recommendation: · Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $244,208 in grant funds for the Fiscal Year 2003 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. Purpose and Need: · The United States Department of Justice has approved a grant under the Bureau of Justice in the amount of $219,787 for the Police Department's Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. The City must provide a cash match of $24,421 for a total award of $244,208. · These funds will be used to provide additional funding for public safety in support of Neighborhood Quality. Funds will be used for technology and equipment, training, and crime prevention initiatives.
