<br />Farm Where Persons Convicted of Misdemeanors or'Violat ion of the City Ordinance May be C0nf~ned
<br />under the ~ovisions of an Act of the General Assembly, Approved Maroh 4, 1914, and in Force
<br />June 19, 1914,
<br /> It was moved that said ordinance be adopted, b~t hhe motion was lost by the following

<br /> 6th. An Ordinance Relating to the Sale and Use of Gas in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />the Inspection of Gas and Gas Meters, and Providing for the Appointment of a Gas Inspector, and
<br />Prescribing his Duties.
<br /> The ordinance 'having been read, the privilege of the floor was granted to B, B. Ferguson,
<br />Supe~indt.of the Portsmouth Gas Company, who asked that his Compan~v be given an opportunity
<br />to study the ordinance before its adoption~
<br /> ~. C. Do L~son~ from the Central Labor Union, spoke in favor of the ordinance.
<br /> ~. Herbert stated~ that-he was in favor of the ordinance, except the paragraph relating
<br />to advertising sa~e in the PortSmouthSts~~.
<br /> ~. H~vey stated that he was mpposedto the creation of a new office under the ordinance
<br />and it was s~ggested that the City'Engineer a~t as G~s Inspector.
<br /> Finally, the ordinance was ordered to lie on the table until the next meeti~ of the
<br />Co~ncil.
