<br /> At a Regular Meeting of the City Council held on Tuesday,
<br />February 28, 1995, there were present:
<br />
<br /> Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemons,
<br />Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., James C. Hawks, James T. Martin,
<br />Cameron C. Pitts, P. Ward Robinett, Jrt, V. Wayne Orton, City
<br />Manager, George M. Willson, Deputy City Attorney.
<br />
<br /> Reverend Jack W. Stallings, Collinswood Baptist Church,
<br />opened the meeting with prayer which was followed by the Pledge
<br />of Allegiance to the Flag.
<br />
<br /> Mayor Webb called the meeting to order and welcomed all in
<br />attendance.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, the
<br />minutes of a Called Meeting on February 7, 1995; a Called
<br />Meeting on February 13, 1995; a Regular Meeting on February 13,
<br />1995; a Called Meeting on February 14, 1995; and a Regular
<br />Meeting on February 14, 1995, be approved, and was adopted by
<br />unanimous vote.

<br />95-89 Resolution honoring Maryview Medical Center for fifty
<br />years of service to the Portsmouth Community.
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Martin, and seconded by Mr. Robinett,
<br />adopt the following resolution, and was adopted by the
<br />following vote:

<br />
<br /> "A RESOLUTION HONORING MARYVIEWMEDICAL CENTER FOR FIFTY
<br />YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE PORTSMOUTH COMMUNITY.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Marl;view Medical Center was founded in 1945
<br />as a 150-bed hospital located in the Glensheallah section of
<br />the City of Portsmouth; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, its beginnings were hLunble as evidenced by a
<br />staff of eight nuns, eight lay nurses, and a collection of
<br />barracks-like government buildings, staffed by some 40
<br />Portsmouth doctors; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, its constant commitment to combining religion
<br />with the best available medicine, equipment and staff has
<br />caused it to become a sophisticated medical center with
<br />state-of-the-art equipment and advanced medical procedures;
<br />
<br />and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, its mission of providing "Good Help To Those In
<br />Need" has caused it to focus on "total care for the body, mind
<br />and spirit known as holistic care designed to aid the total
<br />individual"; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Maryview Medical Center has been providing
<br />such invaluable services to the community for fifty years and
<br />is worthy of honor and praise.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
<br />of Portsmouth, Virginia that the Council hereby honors the
<br />Marlrview Medical Center for a job well done for its fifty years
<br />of service to the Portsmouth community."
