The Mayor of the City of Portsmouth is hereby authorized to execute, on <br />behalf of the City of Portsmouth, the "Fourth Amended Charter Agreement of the <br />Southeastern Virginia Job Training Administration," which is incorporated by reference <br />as if fully set out herein." <br /> <br />01-136(B): <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE CHIEF LOCAL <br />ELECTED OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING <br />WITH THE HAMPTON ROADS WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD FOR THE <br />PURPOSE OF ADMINISTERING PROGRAMS UNDER THE FEDERAL <br />WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in order to fulfill the requirements of the federal Workforce <br />Investment Act ("Act"), it is necessary for the Chief Local Elected Officials, meeting as <br />the "Southside Mayors and Chairs," to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with <br />the Hampton Roads Workforce Development Board for the purposes of administering <br />programs for which funds are made available under the Act; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the proposed Memorandum of Understanding has been furnished to <br />the City Council and the terms thereof are acceptable to the Council. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that: <br /> <br /> 1. The City Council approves the terms contained in the Memorandum of <br />Understanding and authorizes the Chairperson of the Chief Local Elected Officials to <br />execute said Memorandum on behalf of the City of Portsmouth." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />01 - 137 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />01 - 138 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Mayor Holley inquired about the City's 250th Birthday Celebration planning. <br /> <br />Mayor Holley appointed Councilman Whitehurst as liaison of the Truxton <br />neighborhood and asked that he work with the community to preserve its history. <br /> <br />Councilman Moody spoke on the success of the Cradock Town Hall meeting and <br />inquired about the fly over for mosquito control in the future. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Griffin asked all in the City of Portsmouth to continue to be proud of our <br />City. <br /> <br />Councilman Whitehurst asked that mosquito control methods be shown on WGOV- <br />TV. <br /> <br />Councilman Pitts acknowledged Midtown meeting held recently and the strategy for <br />revitalization. He also, spoke on Project Wrecking Ball to begin in May in Midtown. <br /> <br />Councilman Benn acknowledged the Sailor of the Year celebration held at the <br />Renaissance Hotel. <br /> <br />Councilman Moody acknowledged the Coast Guard Ball held recently at the <br />Renaissance Hotel. <br /> <br />Councilman Pitts acknowledged the opening of the Senior Station. <br /> <br /> <br />
