<br /> Notice from the City Manager that it is probable that the bridge leading to
<br />~ery will be 'completed during February and final payment including the pay of the inspe?~or
<br />for two months mt $17~ per month, will he due, the total amount needed being $9,837.$8, and
<br />recommending that this amount be mppropriated from the bond issue.
<br /> I~ is recommended that said amount be appropriated, out of Bond Issue.

<br /> Proposition submitted by the City Manager fS~*W~he Craford Place Corporation for the
<br />tension of Washington St. from Carroll St. to~Craford Flace, at ~n estimated cost of $6,000.00.
<br />Also, proposition cT Geo. D. L~wrence, agent for owners, offerin~ to the City for the exten-
<br />sion Of Dale St. north to the line of the property of the Crafora Place Corporation a strip
<br />of land 60 ft. Wide and 210 ft~ long, for the sum of $1,500.00.
<br /> The City Manager stating that it is possible that the Craforl Place Corporation would
<br />finance the whole matter for the present, provided he is authorized to mssure sa~ld Gorporation
<br />that the matter would be covered later by a bond issue.
<br /> Progress as to same.

<br /> Recommendation of the City Manager that he be authorized to offer Mr. Wm. Smith $25.00
<br />as a compromise, owing to alleged misappropriation by the Cit~ of 5000 bricks belonging to
<br />him and by which h~ claims that he w~s damaged in the sum of $81.00.
<br /> It is recommended that an appropriation of $25.00 be allowed to pay Mr. Smith, out
<br />of the Budget.
<br />
<br /> A communication from the City Manager stmting that h~ thinks in accep3ing any proposition
<br />for the open~$g of a street made by our citizens, it shoumd be done ~ith the provisi~n that
<br />the owners of the property should bear half the risk.
<br /> Progress.

<br /> Request of the City Mmnagar that he be authorized to carry the suit of the City vs. the
<br />Portsmouth Gas Co. on the question of franchise, to the Court of Appeals, and-that he be au-
<br />thorized to employ Major Tyler of Norfolk on the same.
<br /> It is recommended that the request of the City Manager be granted.
<br />
<br /> A communication from th~ City Attorney asking that the Council mppropriate the sum of
<br />$151.~1 to cover the settlement of ~125. and cost of $26.~1, to compromise the suit of E. G.
<br />Smith vs. the City of Portsmouth, such compromise having been agreed upon by Capt.. Happer,
<br />former City Attorney, and Mr. S. M. Brandt, attorDey for Mr. Smith.
<br /> It is recommended that m special mppropri~tion of $151.9t be allowed to compromise
<br />this suit, Ninth Wa~rd funds.
<br />
<br />A communic~tion from the Commissioner of th~ Revenue with re~ard ~o placing on record
<br />certain omitted assessments of Real Estate and P~rsonal Property for the Years lO19 and 1920.
<br /> It is recommended that the City Auditor be instructe~ to charge up these omitted
<br />assessments to the City Collector.
<br />
<br /> Annual Report o~ the Finance Committee of the School Board for School Year ending June
<br />30, 1~20, as per Co,nell request December l?th.
<br /> It is recommended that said report be received and filed.
<br />

<br /> A communication' from the Commissioner ef ~oceu~s for the Court of Hustings for the City
<br />of Portsmouth, Harry A. Brinkley, stating that he has examine~ and certified the list of
<br />collectable Taxes for the City Treasurer of Portsmouth, Va., as required by Section 2417 of
<br />the Code; suggesting ~fee of $50. for the services rendered.
<br /> It is r~epomm~nded that Mr. Brinkley be allowed $25.00 fo~ this work, ~u~ y~ur Com-
<br />mittee feels that~his~work~is performed distinctly for the State, the City shoul~h~v~ to
<br />pay for the same; an~ would, therefore, r®oommend that we do not ~ake mny payments~in the
<br />future for such work.
