<br />22. ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPANIES

<br /> Any person or Company who shall engage in the business of furnishing ELECTRIC LIGHTS
<br />or ELECTRIC POWER OR SERVICE shall pay one-half of one per cent of the gross receipts of
<br />such person o~ company, accruing, from business in the City of.Portsmouth, Virginia, fora.the
<br />calend~r year ending with the 31st of December, immediately next preceding, an4 each person
<br />or company so applying shall submit to the City Auditor a statement of such receipts, which
<br />statement shall be verified by the Auditor by examination of the books of such person or
<br />company and a certificate as to its correctness shall be filed with the Commissioner of zhe
<br />Revenue,

<br /> However, this provision shall not be considered as ~nnuzlzng, or interfering with,
<br />or preventing ~ny contract, franchise, or agreement by ordinance between the City of Ports-
<br />mouth and the Norfolk & Por~smou.th Traction Co. as to compensation for rights and
