<br /> Mr. Esleeck moved to amend by adding the following to the first section: "The speed of
<br />jitneys sh~ll not be more than six miles per hour at street crossings mhd twelve miles per hou~

<br /> An Ordinance Prescribing Jitney Routes for
<br />the City of Portsmouth;

<br /> Whereupon, Mr. White me,ed thmt the ordinance be am~n~dby substituting the following
<br />for the last sentence in Route 3-- Port Norfolk: "Between the hours of 6:30 a. m. and ~:30
<br />a. m. and ~:O0 P- M. and 5:00 P. M. both east and west bound jitneys to make a detour via
<br />Fifth Avenue to County Street, to Sixth Avenue, to High Street,
<br /> The motion was adopted hy the following vote:
<br />
<br /> Ayes-- Brooks, Esleeck, Smith, Hutchins, Oast, White, 6.
<br /> Nays-- None.
<br />
<br /> Then Mm. Cast moved that the loop on Middle and London streets to Crawford street be
<br />struck from the ordinance and that the jitneys be required to go straight down High street
<br />and make a starting point,on High street, between Crawford and Water.
<br />
<br /> At this point, the privilege of the floor was granted to Mr. C. E. Hedges, attorney
<br />for certain jitney owners, who spoke in favo~ of allowing jitneys to receive and disohs~rge
<br />passengers on the north side of High street, east of 0r~wford street.
<br />
<br /> Mr. White offered as an amendment to Mr. Cast's amendment, that the starting point of
<br />oars shall be on the wesz side of Crawford street, north of High, and they sh~li use the High
<br />street route instea~ Of the
<br /> ~e amendment to the amendment was lost by the following vote:

<br /> Finally, Mr. Esleeck moved that ordinance be laid on the table until the next meeting
<br /> the bsdy. The motion was adopted by the following vote:
