A.--Hutehins, Jr., <br /> J~ Alden Oast, 6. <br /> Also the City Manager,. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the regular meeting May 10th and specie/ meeting May ltth were read and <br />were approved. <br /> <br />Finance-- <br /> <br />REPORTS OF COMMITTEES <br />Referred May lOth <br /> <br /> Statement from the City Manager that he hms had a valuation placed by the Portsmouth <br />Real Estate Exchange on the l~d necessaXy for the opening of Cooke St,, between Columbia <br />St. and South St. Road, valuatxon being $5,000.00; and requesting that he be authorized to <br />formally make an offer of $5000.00 to Miss Cooke for this land.and if this offer he refused, <br />that he be authorized to institute the necessary proceedings to condemn the land for stree~ <br />purposes. <br /> It is recommended that the Manager be authorized to offer Miss Cooke $~,500, OO for <br />the land; and if this offer be refused, that he be authorized to institute condemnation pro- <br />ceddings. <br /> <br /> City Mmnager forwards bill of Dr. Vernon Brooks to amount of $15.00, for profetsions~l ser- <br />vices rendered C. W. Robertson, engineer at the Pumpi~g~Station. <br /> It is recommended that a~ appropriation of $1D.O0 be allowed to pay said b~ll. <br /> <br /> A request of the City M~nager that ~n apPrOpriation of $1,000.00 be made for repairs ~o <br />the Office of the City Collector; and in ease it is deemed inexpedient by the Council to make <br />this mpprop=imtion, thathe ~e ~uthorized to use the $1,000.00 for this purpose which has <br />been appropriated f~r the improvement of the Public ~u~r~. <br /> It is recommended thmt a special appropriation to said amount be allowed~ <br /> <br /> Referred May 6th <br /> <br />A request of the Oity Collector that M. Krame~ be refunded $~o50, paid in error for taxes. <br /> It is recommended that said refund be made. <br /> <br />A bill of James E. Jones, 512 South St., to be paid $10. W, Farlon, Manager Union Advertiser~ <br /> <br /> The Rules Committee recommended that the following be substituted for Section 1 of Rules <br />for the Government of the Council: <br /> "Sec. (!) There shall be regular meetings of the Council <br />on ~he second and fourth-Tuesdays in each month at ~ o'clock P, M. and continue in session <br />not later than 11 o'clock'P.
