<br />Reports of the City~ Treasurer, City Auditor, and City Collector for the month of August,
<br /> We have examined same and it is recommended that they be filed.
<br />
<br /> Communication from the Manager stating that in a fire which recently destroyed Dunn'$
<br />garage, a motorcycle belonging to the Police Department was burned up, le~ving the sedd De-
<br />triment with one serviceable machine and one unserviceable one; that the cost of a new ma-
<br />chine is mt the present about $380.00; that the manufactttrers will allow us about $100. on
<br />the old machine, making a new appropriation of $280. O0 necessary if a new machine is to be
<br />bought. The Manager recommends a special appropriation of $2$0.00 for purchase of a new
<br />motorcycle.
<br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation of $280.00 be allowed for purchase
<br />of a new motorcycle for the Police Department.
<br />
<br />~ Communication from the Mmnager enclosing communication from the Mmyor of the City of
<br />Baltimore, addressed .to our Mmyor, calling attention to the Convention of the American Society
<br />of Municipal Improvements, which will meet in B~ltimore October 2~-28th, 1~21, a~d suggesting
<br />that a'confe~ence of Mayors be held at the same time. The Manager states that if Mayor Hut-
<br />chins approves, he thinks it would be a very splendid thing for him to attend.
<br /> No action on this is necessary by the Council.

<br />offer of an adding machine fo= the City Treasurer's Office, the Company quoting a price of
<br />$385.00 less an allowance of $?0.00 on the Wales machine now in'use, making the net cost of
<br />$315.00, The offer holds good for the next 30 days. The Manager recommends that he be ~utho-
<br />rized to purchase it,~ with the understanding that provision be made in next Year~s budget for it.
<br /> It is recommended that a Wales machine be purchased at $262.50, same ~o be paid fo~
<br />from 1~22 ~dget.

<br /> Recommendation of the Manager that an appropriation of $900,00 be allowed as follows:

<br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation of $900.00 be allowed as recommended.

<br />no~ to exceed three visits to Portsmouth by Mr. Arnold during the preparation of the plans,
