White, <br /> Also the City M~nager. <br /> <br />The-minutes of the regular meeting September 13th were read and were approved. <br /> <br />Finauce-- <br /> <br />REPORTS OF COMMITTEES <br /> <br />Referred September 13th <br /> <br />Reports of the City~ Treasurer, City Auditor, and City Collector for the month of August, <br /> We have examined same and it is recommended that they be filed. <br /> <br /> Communication from the Manager stating that in a fire which recently destroyed Dunn'$ <br />garage, a motorcycle belonging to the Police Department was burned up, le~ving the sedd De- <br />triment with one serviceable machine and one unserviceable one; that the cost of a new ma- <br />chine is mt the present about $380.00; that the manufactttrers will allow us about $100. on <br />the old machine, making a new appropriation of $280. O0 necessary if a new machine is to be <br />bought. The Manager recommends a special appropriation of $2$0.00 for purchase of a new <br />motorcycle. <br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation of $280.00 be allowed for purchase <br />of a new motorcycle for the Police Department. <br /> <br />~ Communication from the Mmnager enclosing communication from the Mmyor of the City of <br />Baltimore, addressed .to our Mmyor, calling attention to the Convention of the American Society <br />of Municipal Improvements, which will meet in B~ltimore October 2~-28th, 1~21, a~d suggesting <br />that a'confe~ence of Mayors be held at the same time. The Manager states that if Mayor Hut- <br />chins approves, he thinks it would be a very splendid thing for him to attend. <br /> No action on this is necessary by the Council. <br /> <br />p .ap] <br /> <br /> Mamager <br />mitment fees <br /> It <br /> <br />enclosing bil!~grom the City Sergeant to emount of $1Y5.3~, for board and oom- <br />of prisoners for. the month of August, 1~21; and recommendin~ t~at same be paid. <br />is recommended that a special appropriation of $175.35 be aIlo~ed to pay the bill. <br /> <br /> M~nager enclosing communication from the Burroughs Adding Machine Company, making a special <br />offer of an adding machine fo= the City Treasurer's Office, the Company quoting a price of <br />$385.00 less an allowance of $?0.00 on the Wales machine now in'use, making the net cost of <br />$315.00, The offer holds good for the next 30 days. The Manager recommends that he be ~utho- <br />rized to purchase it,~ with the understanding that provision be made in next Year~s budget for it. <br /> It is recommended that a Wales machine be purchased at $262.50, same ~o be paid fo~ <br />from 1~22 ~dget. <br /> <br />$z75. <br /> <br /> Recommendation of the Manager that an appropriation of $900,00 be allowed as follows: <br />$300.00 for repairs to the .A~'mory; $200.00 for purchase o~ furniture for the A~mory; $200, OO <br />for furniture for Grimes Battery; and $200.00 for repairs to storage~ room. <br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation of $900.00 be allowed as recommended. <br /> <br /> A petition of Bill Throdoropoulos to be refunded $150.00 paid o~ shoe ~ine parlor at <br />rate of 10~ for shi~e, 5~ rate having been established. <br />~ It is r~c~mmended that said petition be not allowed. <br /> <br /> A petition of Portsmouth Post No. 37, The American Legion, for the City to presenm it with <br />a Stand of Oolors~ <br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation of $150.00 be allowed for pu~ch~se~of~. <br />a Stand of~'Oolors~- <br /> Referred July 26th <br /> <br /> R§port of the School Board ~'of immediate needs along the line of School Buildings. _ <br /> It is recommended that the Building Committee of the School Board and the Superinten <br />dent of Schools mee~ with the Council at a special meeting on OGtober 3rd to consider new <br />school buildings. <br /> Referred June l~th <br /> <br />$ ooY <br /> <br /> .ap] <br /> <br /> Recommendation of the Manager that he be authorized to employ Mr. Sheffield A. Arnold, of <br />Boston, M~ss., for preliminar~ sketch, and finally 9omplete plans and specifications, in con- <br />nectibn with development of our park, at a cost of $1,500.
