<br /> The City Attorney gave hie verbal opinion~that the Council has a right to close said
<br /> avenue, and the City Manager stated that he had investigated The matter and recommended the
<br /> passage of the ordinance.
<br /> Then Mr. Esleeck moved that the ordinance be adopted, and it was adopted ~y the fol-
<br /> lowing vote:

<br /> On moti=n of Mr. Esleeck, action on the proposed amendments to the two Jitney Ordinances,
<br /> which had been plak.ed on their first reading by Council December 27th, and the Ordinance re-
<br /> pealing section 6 of Ordinance Creating the Office of Sealer of Weights & Measures for the
<br /> City of Portsmouth, which had ~lso been placed on ~ts first reading December 27th,~was~deferre~
<br /> until the next regular meeting of Council.
<br /> The regula~ reports of the City Clerk & Auditor, City Collector and City Treasurer for
<br /> the month of December were presented and referred to the Finauce Committee.

<br />cases concerning the extension of Hatt~n Street. I have filed the exceptiOnS as directed,
<br />but should the Court set aside the previous award it c~n only appoint new commissioners whose
<br />appraisal might be more or less than the amount appropriated.
<br /> I h~ve been info,ed b~the owners that they are willing to pay into Court
<br />the difference between the $30,O00~OO to be paidby the City and the $32,5~O.O~awarded by
<br />the Commissioners. This would enable ~he matt?r to~b~_.~e~e~a~n~ and avoid any possi-
