<br /> The minutes of the regular meeting February leth and special meeting February. 25th were
<br /> read and were approved.,

<br /> The following resolution adopted by the Hampton Ro~ds-Gloucester-Michmond Highway Ass'oci-
<br /> ation, which had been made the Special Order of Business for this meeting, by Council February
<br />~i~, was taken up and mdopted~on motion of Mr. White:

<br />"To the Honorable State Highway Eommission:
<br />
<br /> "WHeReAS, in consideration of the fact that there remains but 37 miles of improved road
<br />to be constructed to corm'eot the Cities of Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton,
<br />Old Point, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virgini& Beach and,
<br />
<br />"WHEREAS, the completion of this Highway will be of g~sa~ economic value ~o the State and,
<br />
<br /> "WHEREAS, this ~eeting-of~.the City Cotmoil o~ Portsmouth, Va., does fully appreciate the
<br />necessity and economic value om such m Highwmy,
<br />
<br /> "THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That this Council does petition the Honorable State Highwmy
<br />Commission and Commisgioner of the State'of Virginia ~o mllocmte sufficient funds with those
<br />now available from Federal Government for 'the completio~of this Highway by
<br />
<br /> "B~ IT FL~THER RESOLVED, That copies of these resolutions be presented to the Honorable
<br />Highway Commission and Commissioner ~nd i~terested parties."

<br />the Godwin St. Pumping Station and which the Manager believes is undoubtedly on land owned

<br />Association, making request for au appropriation of $5,000.00, for an addition to the present
<br />library building, so that the local Association may accept the offer of Nfs. L. R. Watts.

<br /> Communication from the Manager ~tating that some time during the Year 1~1~, a charge of
<br />$3,000.00 was made for fire hose against the Eighth Ward and a similar charge of $1,000. against
<br />the Ninth Ward. It is the o~inion of the Manager that these charges were erroneous and he
<br />commends that the amount of $3,000. be trausferred t~ the ~edit of the Sth Ward and $1,000.

<br />of the City.Bottling Works, ~o be refunded $151.O0 paid for selling soft drinks at wholesale.
