<br />ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION, &C.

<br /> Each person, firm, or corporation conducting ~n electrical business defined as follows:
<br />Electrical cons~ruction~ installation, repairs, etc.~ either or all, in addition. ~o the mer-
<br />chant's tax required by this ordinance, $101. OO. Parties paying this license are exempt from
<br />paying inspection fees~assessed by the Electriml Inspector. Any non-resident firm installing
<br />or contracting to install any electrical wiring or apparatus in the City of Portsmouth shall
<br />pay the t~x required Dy this ordinance.
<br />
<br />ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPA~!ES,
<br />
<br /> Any person o~ company~who shall engage in the business of furnishing electric lights~ or
<br />electric power or service, shall pay one-half of one per cent of the gross receipts of such
<br />person or company, accruing from business in the City of Portsmouth, Virginial for the calen-
<br />dar year ending wi~h the 31st of December, immediately next preceding, and each person or eom-
<br />.party so mpptying shall submit to the City Auditor a statement of such receipts, which state-
<br />ment shall be verified by the Auditor by examination of the books of such person o~ company
<br />and m certificate as to its correctness sha~l be filed with the Commissioner of the Revenue.
<br />
<br /> However, this provision sh~ll not be considered as annulling, or interfering with, or
<br />preventing or chknging the terms of any contract, franchise, or s~eement by ordinance between
<br />the City of Portsmouth and the Norfolk & Portsmouth Traction Co., or its successors, as to
<br />compensation for rights and privileges in the streets and alleys in the said City used for the
<br />purpose of ~oles and wires in furnishing the City and the inhabitants thereof with electric
<br />lights ~nd power.
<br />
<br />FERTILIZER COMPANIES.
<br />
<br /> Emch fertilize~ dealer or company, its representatives ~nd agents, having and maintaining
<br />m separate office in the City, ~51.00. Each fertilizer dealer or company, its representatives
<br />and agents, occupying the same office with a company paying a license ~ax under the preceding
<br />sentence, shall pay a license ~ax of $10!.O0; provided that any company maintaining a separate
<br />organization s~nd paying its own employees shall be deemed liable to procure a license under
<br />the first sentence of this section.
<br />
<br />FOUNDRIES, MACHINE SHOPS AND REPA. IR SHOPS.
<br />
<br /> On every person conducting ~ foundry, $~6.00, in addition to the tax on the capiAal in-
<br />vested.
<br />
<br /> On every person c,nducting a steam boiler making or boiler repairing shop, $76.00, and
<br />$5.00 for each power tool operated, in ~idition to the tax on the capital invested.
