t.1/

April 25~ 1995

The Director of Traffic Engineering recommends the
establishment of a blanket hauling permit format, as well as
the increase of fees for single trip moves. I concur with this
recommendation, and request that a motion be approved to allow
for Section 22-266 and 22-269 of the City Code to be amended
allowing for blanket hauling permits and fee ~ncreases for
single trip moves."

Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt
the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote:

"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 22 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY
OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTIONS 22-266 AND
22-269 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC."

Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb
Nays: None

95-214 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of
an ordinance to amend Sections 27-52[a) and 27-53 of Chapter 27
of the City Code pertaining to unclaimed property in custody of
the Police.

"The Police Chief recommends amending Sections 27-52(a)
and 27-53 of Article IIi of Chapter 27 of the Code of the City
of Portsmouth in order to allow the Police Department to either
sell by public auction or retain for its use any unclaimed
property that has been in the possession of the Department for
more than sixty (60) days. The proposed amendment requires
that any funds generated through the sale of such property by
public auction be deposited in the General Fund of the City.
It also allows the Chief of Police to determine if there is a
legitimate use for the property by the Police Department. This
option may prove a more economical alternative to obtaining
similar or equivalent items through the procurement process.

I, therefore, encourage your approval of the proposed
ordinance ~unendment."

Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to adopt
the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote:

"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 27-52(A) AND 27-53 OF
CHAPTER 27 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA
(1988) THERETO~ PERTAINING TO UNCLAIMED PROPERTY IN CUSTODY OF
POLICE."

Ayes:
Nays:

ClemonS, Griffin, Hawks, Martin,
None

' - NEW BUSINESS

Pitts,

Robinett, Webb

95-215 - Mr. Clemons offered the following nomination for
appointment to the following Boards and Commissions:

Southeastern Public Service Authority

C.
