<br /> In reference to the suit of the City against the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone
<br />Company, the local court has decided the ease against the city on a demurrer, sustaining three
<br />grounds submitted by the defendant. Two of the grounds go to the merits of the case and to
<br />l~rther prosecute the ssme it would have to be taken to the 8upas Court of Appeals. IldO
<br />not recommend that this course be taken. :

<br /> A petition was read from the School Board requesting an appropriation from Eigl~_th Ward
<br />funds of an additional amount Of $1,500. for the completion and equipment of the colored school
<br />at Pinners Point.
<br /> On motion of Mr, B~ooks, the privilege of the floor was granted to Mr. C. N. Markham,
<br />member of the School Board, who spoke as to the request; :
<br /> On motion, the request was referred to Finance Committee.

<br /> A bill of S. T. Mon~ague, Jr., to amount of $157.50, for services rendered in destroying
<br />63 tagless dogs $ $2.50 each, was referred to the Finance Committee .........
<br /> A communication was remd from Mrs. E. J. Clinton asking th be refunded $~.50, pai i as
<br /> taxes on a oar not owned by her, and same was referred to the Finance Committee.

<br /> A r~quest was read from the Oity Collector that Isaac Fass be refunded $6.60, paid in error
<br /> for auto~6Bile license No. 1913; also for the Commissioner of Revenue to be auth~rized 'to can-
<br /> cel the license.
<br /> On motion, the request was referred to Finance Committee.
<br />
<br /> A petition was read from R. L. McMurran, J. D~vis Reed, Fran~ Lindsay and John C. Niemeye:,
<br /> for permission to erect poles for a high power electric wire line -from Beep Creek to the North
<br /> Carolina line on the road now known as the Dismal Swamp Road, and same was referred to the
<br /> City Manager.

<br /> A petition was received from W. B. Sykes to be paid for ~? days pay at the :~ate of $~.~5
<br /> per~ day, amounting to $~30.'6~, and s~lso ~hospital bill of $167.05, ~otal, $5~?.~O,~ on account
<br /> of acci~ent/..mused by fire engine striking automobile in which he was
