Pierce to be refunded $30.?5, 3/4 of Jitney License £or 1922, same <br />having been cancelled by Order of the City Manager, was referred to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> The fol~owing~ resolution adopted by the Association of Fire Underwriters of the City <br />Portsmouth on ~uly 25th, was read and ordered to be filed: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, There h~s been inaugurated by the Chief of the Fire Department a bureau of <br />Fire Prevention for the further protection of the property owners of the Cit~,'of Portsmouth, <br /> <br /> AND WHEREAS, The officials in chsmge of the Fire P~evention Bureau are performing the <br />duties in a thorough and efficient manner and thereby reducing the fire hazard; <br /> <br /> T~REFORE BE IT RESOLV~D, That we, the Local Association of Fire Insurance Agents, <br />hea~vtily endorse the efforts of the Fire Depe~tment tO lessen the danger from fire and assure <br />them of the co-ope~tion and assistance of this Association and each individual member thereof; <br />and thmt a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the City Manager, the Chief of the Fire <br />Department, and the City Council," <br /> <br /> A petit.ion was read from certain employees of the Street Cleaning and Engineers' Depart- <br />ment to be granted a ~en d~ys' vacation. <br /> The petition was referred to the City Manager, and in tA~is conneo.tion,en~m~tion of <br />Brooks, the City Manager was instructed to bring in an ordinance covering vacation ~nd holidays <br />for all City Officers and employees, same to be submitted a~ the next regular meeting of Council. <br /> A communication was read from certain property holders in the 1100 block on Glasgow <br />street, between Pearl and Cooke, calling attention to poor drainage in said district, <br />same was referred to the City Manager. <br /> <br /> A communication was read from the Corporation Counsel of the City of New York calling <br />attention to Bachr~ch Bill, H. ~R, 10212, now pending in Congress, ~the bill being designed <br />to limit the jurisdiction of the U. S. District and Circuit Courts, so that the Federal <br />District Judge may not, after the passage thereof, have ~the authority to se~ aslde by injunc- <br />tion, orders prescribing rates wh~h have b~en made by Brats Public Utility Commissions." <br /> On motion of Mr. Esleeck, the Clerk w~s instructed ~o secure copies of the bill, and <br />same was referred to the City M~nager and City Attorney for investigation and report. <br /> <br />On motion, <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
