<br />October 10th and referred to a special meeting to be called by the President, was read:

<br />"Portsmouth, Va., October 10th, 1922.

<br /> "Honorable City Council, Portsmouth, Va.
<br />
<br /> "Gentlemen:--
<br /> The Committee on Finance of the School Board was directed by the School
<br />Board at its meeting on Friday night October 6, ~o request of your honorable body, an appro-
<br />priation of $367,000.00 for the erection of the following school buildings.
<br />
<br /> 1. That a sixteen room building (sixteen class rooms and two special rooms) and auditori-
<br />um be erected in the Glasgow Street section at a cost, with equipment, of $1~0,000.00.
<br />
<br /> ~1i That a sixteen room building (sixteen class rooms and two special rooms) and audito-
<br />rium be erected in the Prentis Place section at a cost, with equipment, of $140,000.00.
<br />
<br /> lll. That a twelve room b~ilding (ten class rooms mnd two special rooms) be erected in
<br />the Eou~ut Hermon section at ~ cost including equipment and site not to exceed $87,000.00.

<br /> Then Mr. Es!sock moved that the privilege of the floor be granted to ~ny one present
<br />who may be interested in schools. The motion was adopted, and G~ N, Earkham~ H. A. Hunt, E.L.
<br />Beale, R. E. Gay, B. F. Robinson, H. ~. Gumm, W. T. L. Shepherd, C. E. HodEes, Mrs. W. T. L.
<br />Shepherd, C. L. Cotton, Chas. F. F~rper, M. ~. West, Mrs. T. D. Horns, spoke urging the
<br />appropriation.

<br /> Mr. Esleeck moved that the communication be referred to the Finance Committee of the
<br />Gounsil. ~r. Brooks moved to amend, that same be referred jointly to the Finance Committee
<br />of the Council and the Finance Committee of the School Board.
<br /> The amendment was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> Er. Stewart asked ur~animous consent to p~esent two con~unications from the City ~an~ger,
<br />and the permission was granted.
