June 12, 2001 <br /> <br />(d) S-01-02 <br /> <br />PORT NORFOLK NEIGHBORHOOD - Ordinance granting the <br />request of Jerre G. Ashberry for the closure of an alley located in <br />the 600 block of Chautauqua Avenue. The alley is approximately <br />18 feet wide and 120 feet long. The Comprehensive Plan <br />recommends industrial business park. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Benn, to adopt the following ordinance <br />to include the authorization to the City Manager to convey the property provided the <br />conditional proffers for Z-01-04 are met, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE CLOSING AND VACATING AN UNIMPROVED ALLEY <br />BETWEEN CHAUTAUQUA AVENUE AND MARYLAND AVENUE, BOUNDED ON <br />THE NORTH BY THE SOUTH RIGHT OF WAY LINE OF WOODROW STREET, AND <br />ON THE SOUTH BY THE SOUTHERN BOUNDARY LINE OF JERRE G. ASHBERRY, <br />IF EXTENDED EAST AND WEST ACROSS SAID ALLEY." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- City Manager's Report - <br /> <br />01 - 183 - Adoption of an ordinance to amend Section 2-790 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth to increase the size of the Community Criminal Justice Board to eighteen <br />members to accommodate a Board request that the superintendent of the Hampton <br />Roads Regional Jail be made a mandatory member. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of an ordinance to amend Section 2-790 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth to increase the size of the Community Criminal Justice Board to eighteen <br />members. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The size of the Board needs to be increased to eighteen members to accommodate <br />a Board request that the superintendent of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail be made a <br />mandatory member. <br /> <br />· The amendment will also permit the appointment of an additional citizen to the <br />Board. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· There is no financial impact for this item. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Benn, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMEND SECTION 2-790 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMUNITY CRIMINAL JUSTICE <br />BOARD." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to suspend the rules and <br />take agenda items 01-187 out of order, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />01 - 187 - Adoption of a resolution approving the issuance of not to exceed $25,000,000 <br />of the City of Norfolk Empowerment Zone Facility Revenue Bonds for Metro Machine <br />Corporation and/or Speede Shipyard, LLC to acquire, renovate and equip a merchant <br />ship repair facility. <br /> <br /> <br />
