Adopted. <br /> <br /> ~ith reference to adding the following to Article 1V, Section ?, on motion of Er. ~hite <br />same was not adopted: <br /> <br /> "In the event that the Council of Gran~or, or the electors of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> should during the life of this franchise by ~mendmenm to this franchise, or by resolution <br /> ordinance of the Council of Gran~or, or by a vote by the electors of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> permit-or allow the operation of any system of or separate vehicles ~r urban transportation <br /> in competition with grantee on streets nearer than two blocks fzomt~he portion of any street <br /> on which g=antee operates or may operate its street oars and busses in the City of Portsmouth, <br /> unless and until grantee has previously given its consent thereto in w~ting except as provided <br /> in Article V1, and Section 6, of Article lll, of this franchise, the g~antor will release the <br /> grantee from all license taxes provided for ih this franchise, as well as ~rom all p~ving <br /> obli~tions imposed on grantee by this franchise which fall due thereafter., <br /> <br /> With reference to Article ~, Section 3, on motion of Er. The reoon~end~tion was adopted. <br /> <br /> The ~an~ger re'commended also that the last three lines of Article l, Section l, be straok <br /> out, provided the trollibus ordinance is adopted.~ The rsco~m~end~tion was adopted. <br /> <br /> The N~nager recommended that the following paragraph be substituted for Article 5, Section <br /> i, ~th ps~vagraph, provided the trotlibus franchise is adopted: "Lincoln & First St. Line: <br /> Starting at High and Water streets, ~o ~ter, to County, to Crawford, to First, to Lincoln, <br /> to South St. Boulevard, and returning via s~me <br /> The recommendation was adopted. <br /> Several members of the Council express^~the opinion that~Council should determine whether <br />we are to h~ve trollibus service before adoPting the traction ordinance. <br /> <br /> Whereupon, Nr. White moved that the City Attorney be instructed to submit an ordinance <br />cove=lng trollibus franchise, as outlined in ordinance considered tonight. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Esleeck, the rules were suspended to take up Nr. White's motion, s~ud <br />by the following vote: <br /> Ayes-- Brooks, Esleeck, Hutchins, 0mst, Smith, <br /> Stewart, White, <br /> <br /> Then Nr. l~hite's motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> Er. Brooks moved that the traction ordinance, as amended, be rewritten and submitted to <br />the next meeting of Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. White moved ~o amend, that the traction ordinance be rewritten, as amended, and sub- <br />mitted, together with ordinange for trollibus franchise to be drawn by the City Attorney, to <br />m special meeting of the Council to be called by the Chair~.~ <br /> The amendment was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
