<br />At a re~la~ meeting of the City Council M~rch 27th there were present:

<br />The minutes of th~ regular meeting M~rch 13th were read and were approved.

<br /> At this point, the President amnounoed the death of Oounoilm~n R. B. Esleeck which oocu~-
<br />red M~rch lyth, 1~23, at 7:45 Ps Ms, and in this connection Mr. Brooks offered the following
<br />resolution, which was adopted:
<br />
<br /> "WHEREAS, God has deemed fit, in His Wisdom, to remove by death from our midst ou~ beloved
<br />friend and able and respected fei'low Councilman Richard Burroughs Esieeck, and'
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the life and c~reer of Mr. Eslseck have, both in his capacity as a private citi-
<br />zen and as a legislator, been such as to merit specikl commendation not only bY thi~ body but
<br />by all who h~ve had the privilege of knowing him a~d being associated with him,
<br />
<br />~E'IT RESOLVED, by the Coumcil of the City of Portsmouth, in regular session assembled,
<br />
<br /> That it is thesense of the ComUcil that thorough Mr. Esleeck's vision mmny improvements
<br />have been initiated and complected in the City which will stand as monuments to his foresight
<br />and ability.
<br />
<br /> That the Council deplores the loss to his family, to his Church, to his City and~o his
<br />State of an able, courageous and public spirited ~relative, friend and citizen~, whose~ife
<br />has been devoted to the Welfare of his fellowman and to the progress ~f his native City.
<br />
<br /> That it hereby expresses to his sorrowing f~mily its full share in the sincere grief and
<br />keen sense of loss felt by them and t~e entire Cltyat his untimely death.
<br />
<br /> That this resolution be spread on the minutes of the Oou~oil and a copy of it be f~.rnished
<br />to the late Councilman Esleeck's fs~i!y and ~o the d~ily papers.~
