The request is <br />for $135,520 in federal funds to serve 2,500 meals per day for <br />33 days. A total of 39,600 breakfasts and 42,900 lunches will <br />be served at eleven sites throughout the City. Ail sites are <br />located in communities where more than 50% of the youths are <br />eligible for free meals. No local money is required by the <br />grant. <br /> <br /> The program has operated annually for more than 30 years <br />and is an important part of the successful SLunmer Fun-n-Sun <br />Recreation Program. The Program offers nutritious meals and <br />promotes self-awareness, cultural and educational group <br />activities for all participants. I recommend approval of this <br />request and the transfer of $135,520 from the Grants Contingency <br />Account to fund the program after it has been awarded. The <br />grant is usually awarded in June. <br /> <br /> <br />
