<br /> TMEREFORE, BE IT ILESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, That the City
<br />Manager shall distribute all funds pertaining to the Water Department as ~early equally as. pos-
<br />sible among the following banks of the ~ity of Portsmouth: The First National Bank, the Ba~k of
<br />Tidewater, the Merchants & ~armersBank, the American National Bank, The Citizens Trust Co., an~
<br />The State Bank. Provided, however, that current funds subject to ~hecking may be kept in one
<br />bank as at present with the understanding that the checkin~balance shall be ~ept at as low ~
<br />figure as possible, generally not exceeding $2,500,00.~

<br /> And it is further recommended that the Treasurer be authorized to pay bill of S.
<br />~ntague, Jr., State Game ~arden, to amount of $105.00, for services rendered in destroying
<br />~ tagless dogs $ $2.50 each, out of funds on hand from collection of Dog Taxes.

<br /> The following extract was read from meeting of the Board of Supervisor~ of Norfolk County
<br />held on the l~th day of August, 19~3: ~The Chairman appointed M~r. Rapelye, ~Lv. Duke, and Mr.
<br />Old, together with Mm. Preston, ex-officio, a Committee to c?n~fer with the City Council of the
<br />City of Portsmouth to hasten the co~truction of Route ~12X (now known as ~O), a~d to l~ave
<br />the State Highway Commissionbuild the said Route with the assistance of the City of Portsmouth
<br />as soon as possible."
<br /> Mm. White moved that a 0ommittee of Three, together with the City Manager, be appointed
<br />to confer with the Committee from the Board of Supe~Visors,~nd reporm on the advi.~ability of
<br />e~pediting the ~2~mmediate building of thim road. The motion was adopted,

<br />the following ordinance be adopted:
<br /> An Ordinance Prohibiting the Reoeiving~f or Deposit of
<br />Fares by I~river~ of Autobusse8 in the City of Portsmouth.

<br />On motion of Mr. Brooks, the ordinance was placed on its first reading,
<br />
<br /> 2nd. Submitted report showing the cost of operation of the Portsmc~thNater Department
<br />for the month of June, 1~23.
<br /> On motion, the report was ordered to he filed,
<br />
<br /> 3rd. "I beg to submit herewith report from the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce on adver-
<br />tising. I believe that this report is of the greatest importance and that~the Council should
<br />co-operate in advertising the City. A special appropriation of $~,000,O0 is recommended for
<br />this purpose with the understanding that the money will be expended by the.City Manager for:
<br />!st, printing a pamphlet covering the advantages and resources of Portsmouth; End, covering
<br />the cost of ~uoh advertising in business papers as approved by the City Manager~ :~t may be
<br />~neceseary also to pay certain items of travelling expense in connection with totaling industries
<br /> which ~ay be approved by the City Manager. The Chamber of Commerce will be requested to fur~sh
<br /> a detailed budget showing hew it is proposed to expend the funds.,
<br /> on motion of Mm. Oamt, the recommended appropriation was referred to the Finance Com-
<br /> mittee.
