I am hereby writing requesting that you g~ant me permission to use as a d~iveway sole- ly for street purposes, the Jib of land condemned by the City, which property If not used for street purposes was ~o revert to the origi~l owners. I have dis~aesed this m~tter with General J. P. Jervey who is familiar with a~l of the facts and on account of his absence from the City, is my reason for addmessing this com- munication to your body. I trust that this permission will be g~,anted at the next Council meeting to be held Tuesday, July 10th, aS it is imperative that I make a decision with the present owner by July 15th next. On motio~ef M~v. White, the Clerk was instracted to acknowledge receipt of-the invita- tion, and ~ame was referred to the Portsmouth ~hambez of Commerce. A petition wms read from H. L. Alexander to be reZm~ded amount paid for taxes on property purchased by him from J. V. Parker on Second Average, and same Was referred-to the Finance Oommittee.az~i 0ity Attorney. The followir~g communication was read from the Virginim R~ilwmy & ~Ower Company: "July 6, 1923. Honorable City Council of Portsmouth, Portsmouth, V&rginia. Gentlemen:- In 2ine with the Compauy's policy of trying to give improved car service in Ports- ~ou~h, as evidence~, s~aong other things, by the purchase and operation in Portsmouth of fifteen 15) safety care, (purchased about the first of the yea~ at a cost of approximately $100,000)~ we respectfully request that permission be gramted the Company to install connecting ~racks as follows: ~ t 1- A curved connection at Middle and ~oun y around the southeast corner. E- A curved ~ak at H~tton and Arau street a~ound the northeast corner. 3- A curved track a~ Webster and Arm street around the southwest corner, and that we be permitted to =eroute cars as follows: 1- CROSS ~TOWN LINE- From Fayette and Third streets, along the presen~ route to Middle, and County, thence along County to Crawford, to Hi,n, to Court, to North, to Green, to Cal~elonia, to Ohestnut~ Ann.to Hatton, to Naval, to Park, to Villa, to Cock, to Leckie, to Webster, to ."B," to Hatton, to London, to Middle, to County, thence along present ~route to Fayette and 3rd street. 2- To reroute the PARK VIEW AND CEMETERY LINE as follows: From High and Crmw- ford, along High to Court, to North, to Green, to Oaledonia, to Chestnut, to Ann, to Cook, to the end of the li~e on Glasgow, returning via ~laegow, to Cook, to Ann, to Webster, to to Hatto~, to London, to Middle, to County, to Crawford, to Eigh.
