<br />At a regular meeting of the City 0ouncil July 22nd there were present:

<br />The minutes of the regular meeting July 8th were read and were approved.

<br /> Cogitation from the School Board requesting three new school buildings.
<br /> Your Oon~.ittee recommends.~building program to cover a period of thre~ years.
<br />following projects to be provided, one each year, in the or~e~ named:

<br /> Project $1- A sixteen..~(i6) room school building on the Shea
<br /> Traot,~.and a new smte to be purchased mn the
<br /> Seventh Ward.

<br /> Seventh Ward.
<br />
<br /> Project $3- A ten (90) room sc~oo~ building to be erected
<br /> on a new site to be p~chased south of High St.

<br />insure tn~t the project will be completed and the building re~dy-for occupancy and use in the
<br />following September.

<br /> Plains are to be prepared for each project in turn, bi~s received and submitted to
<br />the Cotuncil before the contract for any building is let. ~ands will be immediately provided
<br />by the Council for each project ~fter it has considered bid for that project..

<br /> The present Glasgow street and Elm ~venue bumldmngs a~d sit~s to be abandoned for
<br />school purposes by the School Board as soon as Projects I and 2~, respectively, are completed.

<br /> Recommendation of the Manager that an allowance of $30.00 per month be made to Mary
<br />Jennings, who handles the colored probation work.

<br /> Recommendation of the Man~ger that a special appropriation of $300.00 be allowed to pay
<br />cost of modifications and furniture including gas heaters, for a court room in the old Hook
<br />& L~dder Assembly Room.

<br /> Recommendation of the Manager that he be authorized to pay John E. Rapeleye,~2, ~01.60,
<br />in c~.nnecti, on with extr~ work involved in olacing shells found to be ~ecessary under the pipes
<br />comprmsed mn the ~est High St. drainage~ ccitt.act, .same being an allowance of $2,3~.6y for .~.~

<br /> It ms recommended that $2,801.60 be allowed, from New Seweragge ~mnd, to pay the ~ewl~ewe

<br />City license on a two ton Ford auto truck and the truck being one ton capacity.

<br /> Petition of J. O. Smith ~h~t tax~s assessed against R. S. Lattimer for the Years 1~21~
<br />1922, and 1~23, on lots Nos. ~83 and ~84 West Potomac Street, be relievea to amount off
<br />for each Tear, ~. Smith h~ving paid the taxes for said years.
<br /> It is reoommend~ed that the petition be granted.

<br /> 0ommunication from the City E~ectoral Board enclosing bills amounting to $30.55, incurred
<br />on second d~y primary election held April 3, 1924, and askir~ that the City p~y same. $30.~
<br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation of $30.55 be allowed to pay said bills, spec.

<br /> Communication from the School Board requesting the Council to appropriate the sum of
<br />$2,100~00, from W~s~ington Ward fu~.ds, for a fire escape at the Port Norfolk School, if s~ch
<br />funds ~hould be ~vailable and provided also that this be agreeable to the citizens of this
<br />Ward.
<br /> It 'is recommended that a speoial~ appropriation of $2,100.00 be allowed, from 8th
<br />Ward funds, for this purpose.

<br /> Recom~n.~endatio~ of the City Attorney that an appropriation of $1.hO0. O0 be made to nurchase
<br />sufficient land from Jo S. and Merrick Rea to open Duke street and to pay court costs~ said
<br />parties having instituted suit against the City in l~16, for the ~-~pose.of enjoining She
<br />City from~:~allowing th~ water to flow through the culvert at the south eno of Washmngton street
<br />in such a manner as to p~ss over certain l~.nd 9omplaiDe~ by~ the complainants in the suit.
