<br /> The City Council elects the City_ Manager, City O. lerk and Auditor~ City Collector,
<br /> City Attorney, High Constable and Justices of the Peace.

<br /> Under Section 2943 of the Code Of virginia, the first appcintmen~ of the City Nanager
<br /> may be either during the plea~sure of the 0ouncil, or for a term of three years. The Council
<br /> may re-appoint the City Manager for a term of three yesxs. ~he Council may re-~ppoint the
<br /> City Msmager for a term .not exceedin~ six years. The present City Msmager, General J. P.
<br /> Jervey, was elected on September 1, I920, for an indefinite period. He holds office during
<br /> the pleasure of the 0ounciI, and his term of office did not expire with the t erm~ of the
<br /> preceding council,' August 31, 1924.

<br /> The' City Attorney was elected June 28, 1921, to take office July 1, 19~1, for an
<br /> indefinite term. He ~l~o hold his office du?ing the pleasure of the Council.
<br />
<br />The City 01erk and Auditor, City Collector, High 0onstable, and the Justices of the
<br />Ps, ace were elected on November ?2, 1921, to take office on January 1, 1922. At that time a moti. o
<br />was~ade to elect' them for an inaefinite~term. An amendment was ma~e to the motion to elect
<br /> th~m for a term of four' years. The adjourning hour having arrived before a vote was taken
<br /> this matter went over to the meeting held December 1~, !~21, at which time it was taken .up as
<br /> the first order of business. The amendm6nt was carried by a vote of five to two. Hence these
<br /> officers Were elected for a ter~m of four years. Their terms of office expire on December 31,

<br />of August were presented and were referred to the Finance 0ommittee.

<br /> A communication was read f~om the City Auditor stating that there is needed a spect.al
<br />approp~iatio~ of $500.00 to pay Jur~ service for the balance of-the .fiscal year.
<br /> On mo~ion, the communication was referred to Finance 0ommittee.

<br />Mr. Brooks moved that a special appropriation of $300.00 be allowed to pay Mr. Monroe
<br />Nash~ accountant, for ~reparat~ibn of c~st report in connectign with the informal appraisal
<br />of the Norfol~ c6unty ~erries, as recommended by the Manager. ' ' '
