875 October NEW BU~XNESS Ashburn to be reikmded$~.50 taxes paid A petition wasread from Julia F; O. on for the years 1~921, 1922, and 1923,~ property at the N.E. cot. High St..and Mt. and to be relieved from payment of $2.10 ~axes on said property for the Year 1924. On motion, the petition was referred to the Finance ~ommittee. The following copy of letter was ordered to be filed: "Portsmouth, Va., October 16th, Messrs. 0. N. Markham and W. T. Ciand, Portsmouth, Va. in error Vernon Ave., Gentlemen:-- It is my ~leasure to inform you of your appointment by the Court of Hus~_~s as assessors for the quenque~uial assessment of-lauds, with their improvements, to be made in 1925 in the city of Portsmouth. As reqaired by Section 225t of the Oede of Virginia, $~u will ~ppear before the court and execute a bond with sufficien~ surety in the-penalty of 5000. ~^~+~ *~ ~ faA~hful discharge of the duties of-~he office. The following petitionwas read: "THE HONORABEE 0ITY OOUNOiL, Portsmouth, Va. We, the undersigned Citizens and ~side~ts of Portsmouth, Virginia, petition your honorable body to disapprove the proposed ams.dmsnt to ~he Jitney Ord~mance, which proposes to re-route the busses and to change their terminus from HIGH STREET~etween 0RAWFORD A~D WATER STREETS. Such proposed change would seriously inconvenience the public aud we most respect- fully urge that the routesyemain as they are. Signed by Miss L. Eilleen~and 1~15 others." On motion of Mr. Oast, the petition was referred to the meeting at which the proposed amendment to the $itney Ordinamce ~ill be taken up. Mr. Stewart (R.E.B.-)~ moved that the Oity wa~ager report to the Oounoii the estimated coot of establishing the ~hite Way on Orawford street~ from High to OolU~ia. The motion was adopted.
