October 28, 192~ <br /> <br />We recommend the p~ssage of the following attached ordinance: <br /> <br /> An Ordinance Requiring a License Tax of Peddlers of ~rket Produce, Fresh Meats <br />or Fish, and Vendors of Fruits, Nuts, Confectioneries, Ice 0ream, Tea, Coffee, Sold on the <br />Streets or in Other ~mblic Places in the 0ity of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Referred Aug~st 26th <br /> <br /> Communication from the Commi~tee on Btdgs. & ~Equipment of the School Board stating that <br />bids have been received on the Sixth Avenue Building and contract awarded to the lowest <br />bidder, subject to appropriation by Council; that a schedule of bids indicates that they <br />shall.probably be.able to ksep within the preliminary estimate of $122,500.00, but asks for <br />a maxlmum approprlation of $125,000.00 to provSde for~any emergencies. <br /> · It is recommended that an appropriation of $121,552.50, which ~ogether .with the $121~552 <br />appropriation of $3,~?.50 previously allowed by Council makes an appropriation of $125,O00.00, <br />be allowed fp~ t~e Sixth Avenue School ~ilding. ~ ~ ~ <br /> <br /> _ It is recomm~.nded that funds for the Sixth Avenue School Building be borrowed from <br />the several Banks of the City of Portsmouth as needed until such time as the city may issue <br />bonds for the same, and recommend adoption of the following resolution therefor: <br /> <br /> #BeI~ Resolved by the Oouncil of the City of Portsmouth, Va., That the President <br />and the Ohairman of the Finance 0ommittee of t~e 0o~cil are hereby authorized to m~.~e notes <br />in the several City Banks through the proper Officers, to amount not to exceed $125,000.00 <br />in the aggregate, for the puroose of prQviding l~nds for the new Sixth Avenue School Building, <br />until such time as bonds shal~ have been issued for the same. <br /> <br />That each note shall be accompanied by the following certifidate: <br /> <br /> 'The City T~e~s~rer is hereby'i~structed by the President and the Ohairman of the <br />Finance Oommittee of the Oouncll of the 0ity of Portsmouth, Virginia, to make notes in <br /> Bank to amotu~t of $ for__days, to meet expenses on the <br />new school building; said amount to be reoaid from bonds to be issued by the Oity of Ports- <br />mouth for that purpose. <br /> <br /> .This instruction is given in $ocordsnce with ordin~uce adopted by The Council of the <br />Oity. of Portsmouth, Va., September 1st, 1916. <br /> <br />(Signed) <br /> <br />President. <br /> <br />Chmn.
