White, 6. <br /> _ Also the 0ity Manager. <br /> <br />The minutes of the regular meeting July 2~th were read and were approved. <br /> <br /> REPORTS OF OOMMITTEES <br />Finance-- <br /> Referred July <br /> <br /> Report from the Transportation 0ommi~tee on, and petition from the' Waterview Bus 0orpo- <br />ration asking authority to do local business in the City of Portsmouth between Hamilton Ave. <br />and the ferry. <br /> ~ogress as to same. <br /> <br /> Recommendation of the Manager that Council authorize ~he proper City Officials to w. rite <br />a letter to Mr. Watson asking that hill of 0ol. E. S. Bailey for ~00.00 for l~gal servxces <br />re~dered in ccnnection with the ferry appraisal, he paid from ferry revenues. <br /> Progress. <br /> <br />Recommendation of the Manager requesting approval of a letter from the Director of <br />Public Welfare asking that an annual ~ppropriation of $3~,O0 be made to purchase a golf~prize. <br /> imrogz, e se. <br /> <br /> Recommendation of the ~f~nager that u telephone be installed at the Superintendent 's <br />cottage in the City Park, and that a special-~ppropriation of $1~O,O0-he allowed for instal- <br />lation and $~0.00 for the rental for the balauce of the Year. <br /> Prog'fesso <br /> <br /> Communication from the Manager forwarding copy of a letter from Mr. Alexander O. Ferehee <br />asking an expression of opinion from the Council ~s to the desirability of erecting a hotel <br />in Portsmouth, and as to whether it should he located on the Municipal property. <br /> Progress. <br /> <br /> Recommendation of the Manager that a special appropriation of $2~50.00 be allowed ~o <br />purchase equipment, for labor~ and for material, for spraying trees infested with the .elm <br />beetle. <br /> It is resommended that a special appropriation of $2~O.00 be allowed for this pu~- <br />pose. <br /> <br /> Communication from the Manager recommending approval of request from the American 0il <br />asking that the portion of Romanesque St, south of County St. he closed. <br /> Progress, <br /> <br /> Reports of the City Auditor, City Collector, and City Treasurer for the month of Jume, l~2 <br /> We have examined theserreports and it is recommended that they be filed. <br /> Request of the City CollectOr that an appropriation of $100~OO he allowe~ to purchase <br />& filing case for the proper filing of cards and application of drivers,! permits. <br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation n6t exceeding $100.O0 be allowed <br />for same; sad in connection with drivers~ permits, it is recommended that a charge of <br />he made for issuing ~l~li~ate cards. <br /> <br /> Petition of F. M. Wilder and Jo N. Sykes that First Avenue, fr~m Leckie St. to ~igh~S~., <br />he paved. <br /> It is recommended that the City ~ager's recommendation that First Avenue, from <br />Le.cki. e St: to ..High St., he paved with _-_~ eighteen foot bituminous macadam paving at an esti- <br />mates co.s~ cf ~18,0. M. Peed for the sum of $136.60 he relieved, as properi~y 52? Hampton Place owned <br />by Geo. ~. Peed was purchased February 2~th, 1923, by said Church, and has since been used <br /> <br /> It is recommended that Court St. B&ptist Church he relieved from payment of ten <br />months taxes assessed in the name of ~eo. ~.
