<br /> 0ommun~catio~ ~rom the Manager stating that, with reference to petition of residents
<br />and tax payers that Bart street, between Court and Middle Streets, be included in the present
<br />paving program so th&t it may be paved this year, he has inspected this street amd finds that
<br />there, are only foum residences in the block mamed mud that to pave this street with a bituminous
<br />maoadam paving 21 ft. wide it will cost about $2,~00.00; that in his opimion this pavimg is
<br />not Justified at the present time.
<br /> It. is recommended that this matter be referred tc the n~xt paving program.

<br /> Adverse recommendation from the Ma~ger on petitiom of residents ~ property owners
<br />that sidews~lks be laid for a short distance on the north and south sides of Emmett St. and
<br />on the west side of Green St. from Emmett St~ to the park, stating that the walks desired
<br />will cos~ approximately $~O0.00 for a fou~ foot walk.

<br />$122.50, for services'rendered in destroying 4~ dogs $ $2.50 each.

<br />necessary to protect the Oity's interest.

<br /> Xt is recommended that delegates representing the 0ity of Portsmouth be appointed to
<br />attend this Oonvention.

<br /> It would seem to me very appropriate for a committee of the 0ouncil to represent the Oity
<br />on this occasion. At the last meetimg held in Portsmouth many cities were represented by the
<br />Mayor ~r the ~Oity Manager and members of the Oouncil. Ro..a~.oke, particularly, was represented
<br />by its Nay~r~aud entire Council, its 0ity Nauage~ and Auditor~nd 01erk of Oouncil.#

<br /> On motion~off..~Nr. Brooks, the communication was referred to the Finance 0ommitteeo

<br /> 2nd. et beg to recommend that Police Officer R. 0. Journee be re-imbursed for eleven
<br />days an~ si~ hours~time lost o~ a~co.~n~ o~ injuries to his ankle, while in performance of his
<br />duty~ ar. ~our~ee s case was nandmea my ~r. J. O. Phillips, Oity Physician, who certifies
<br />as to his in~uries.

<br /> On motion of.Nr.~Brooks, the recommendation was referred to Fi~ence 0ommittee.

<br /> 3rd. #Zu~ccordance wSth your inst~uctions, I have taken up the matter of bus schedules
<br />to West Park View with the Oonsolidated Bus 0orporation and the president of this corporation
<br />informs me that never at any ti~me has service to this section been deliberately curtailed.
<br />He recalls one~ instance when it was necessary to take off one~ On account of an. aCCident
<br />but the service was ~restored as soon am suitable repairs F~re~'made. Not more tha~ fou~ hours
<br />was lost befoze the regular schedule was resumed.- The President states that the OorpOration
<br />will endeavor to furnish the very best possible service to West Park View an~ hone~*~ ~,
