Property has not been under lease to it. This can be done, of course, by prorating the taxes
and charging against the Warehouse Company the same for the taxable period to June 25th, and
having the 0ity assume the balance.
The lease from the 0ity to the Warehouse Company did not contain a provision fog the
Payment of the taxes ~
0ouncil for a rebate upon the street ends by the Oompany~ and it intends to petition yoUr-
in the taxes heretofore paid upon the street ends for the past fly
years but thought it best only, at this time, to ask for the rebate since June 25th. ~

Respectfully submitted,
~Atlanta, Ga., November 23rd, 1925.

_Ou~. Real Estate Agent in Norfolk advised me on J~ne 26th, 192~, of the sale to
the City of ~or~smouth, by deed dated November 20th, 1923, of lot at the corner of Race and
Green streets. He advised further that, instead of m~king a cash adjustment for taxes paid,
General Jervey suggested that the Seaboard ded~Act from the year's bill the amount of Oity
and State taxes on this lot for the seven months period. However, at the time of paying
taxes to the 0ity of Portsmouth for the year 1924, this was overlooked, and we paid taxes
for the entire yes~r on ~his property, and to the State as well. This lot~w~s assessed at
2,~31, and the amount of taxes paid thereon t6 the 0ity of Portsmouth for year 192~ was
59-~5. The 0it~ of Portsmouth should have paid seve~-twelfths (?/12) of this amomnt, or
34.68, and I sh~ll be glad if you will let me have check for that amount at the earliest
convenient date. The matter of rel~And of State taxes will be handled with the tt~te authorities
in Richmond.

In July, 1925, I handled this ~atter with Mr. ~nrahan. On ~cteber 29th he
advised me that Mr. Brinson would handle it. On November 20th, Mr. Brinson advised me that
the m~tter must be handled wi~.. the Oity Council.

Yours truly,

W. L. STANLEY,

On motion,

Vice-President.
