Report from the Manage~, stating that in his opinion, a fire hydrant is advisable at the northeast corner of King St. and Seventh Ave., the cost of installimg.same being $525.00 and'the annual rental eharge being $~O.00. Also stating~that the'cost of ~lnstallation will be defrayed from Water Department funds but that no funds are available to pay for the rental nor has any provisiom been made for additional hydrants innext year's budget. it is recommended that Said hydraut be installed. Recommendation of the Manager that.all unexpended or unpledged balances either in the Eighth Ward bond fudd or the Eighth Ward current fund be transferred to the appropriation -for sewers. .Progress. Recommendation of the Nanager that he be 'authorized to transfer $200.00 from Labor, at the Incinerator, 4-0, A-2, to Labor, Street 0leaning, 4-B, A-2, it having ~been necessary during September to cut a considerable number of weeds with the Street Cleaning force in order to keep sidewalks open and to prevent possible suits against the 0ity. it is recommended that said transfer be authorized. Communication from the 0ity Manager with regard to the question of assessing abutting owners for public improvements. Progress. An appropriation of $41,973.66 to ~ay compromise of amount claimed to be due by the United States in full settlement of the amount of interest ail~ged to be due by the United States on the water contract entered into between the United States and the 0ity of Ports- mouth under date of Oct~be~ 15,. 191S. Progress. Request of the Salvation Army to be relieved from payment of $81.56 taxes on property ~25 0ounty street, said property having been purchased by theSalvation Army July 2, 1~15, from the Estate~of Bas Rosenthal. Progress. Referred November 10th Communication from the Oity Attorney recommending that he be authorized to settle for $800.00 the four claims of Aohra~ Griffi~ and others for damages to their half interest in the crepe ~n the farm of J, ~. Johnson near Deep Creek occasioned by an overflow of water, said to have been Baused by the ditch cut through Dismal Swamp by the Board of Water Commissioners. .It is recommended ~hat a special appropriation of $800.00 be allowed t~ settle said claims. It is further recommended that an approprimtion of $10,956.92 be allowed, out of School Bond F~nd, t~ pay bills due on the Duke-St. Schoo'l. It is fur~ther recommended that the Treasurer be authorized to pay, out of funds on hand from collection of Dog Taxes, bill of J. It is estimated that a concrete bridge-will cost $21,~04.00. ~nis estimate is based on maintaining.the presen~ d~th of water of four-feet.
