<br /> Recommendation of the M~nager that an appropriation of $2,600.00 be allowed in the Budget,

<br /> Petition of W. H~ W.~Oaesell tha~ the Oity~ Oolleo~r be directed to receive check for $661.~
<br />in payment of the 1925 taxes assessedagains~ property 61~-6~l~High Sro, ~ax~s~ for 192~ being
<br />unpaid, as the property produced a revenue of onl~ $~5.00 per mont~ from November 1923 to ~M~rch
<br />15, 1925, while the oa~rying charges on that property amounted to $2700.00 annually.
<br /> ~ As the ordiuances of the Oity prohi$it the.acceptance of taxes for the current year
<br />unless all previous years have been paid, it Xs recommended that the petition be not g~anted.

<br /> Recommendation of ~he N~_~nager that a uniform cha~ge of $50.00 per hour per machine be made
<br />for the first ho~z~.amd $25.D0 perm achine after the first hour, for ~fi=e apparatus used in
<br />assisting at adjacent points, same net to apply to Norfolk or. the Navy Department with whom
<br />the Oity has a mutual assistance agreememt; and that the Manager be authorized to p~biish a
<br />note stating ~he hourly charges with a proviso that our apparatus will go to the assietanoe
<br />only of those communities whose~governingbcdieshave in writing indicated their-acceptance
<br />of the charges proposed.
<br /> It iereoommended that the recommendation of the Manager be not concurred in.

<br />for public improvements.
<br /> It is recommended that we approve the enactment of a law by the Legislature to enable
<br />cities and towns to assess abutting property own~r~ for public improvements if they sO elect to

<br /> An appropriation of $~1,9Y3.66 to pay compromlse~ of amom~t claimed to be. due by the Un~ ed
<br />States in full settlement of the amount of interest allegedto be due ~y the U.S. on the
<br />water oontract~entered into between the United States and the 0i~y of Portsmouth under date
<br />of October 15, 191S.
<br /> It is recommended that an appropriation of $41,973.66 be allowed, out of Water De-
<br />partment funds, for this purpose.

<br /> It is recommended that the following resolution be adopted in reference to the said
<br />petition:

<br />petition requestimg the Gity to offer for sale a tract of land contA~mirfg ~3oE6 acres show~
<br />upon a plat attached to said petition and which appears to be a part of the Pest House Tract
<br />purchased by the Oity at the sale of the land of Timothy White held mbout 1879;
<br />
<br /> AND WHEREAS, the said J, ~ Wotoot%, Tram%ce, offered in %he said petition %o guarante~
<br />a bid on said property in ~he sum of $750, provided a survey is made of the said land and it
<br />is fottnd to be a part of said Pest House Tract;
