Brooks, the privilege of the floor was extended to any o~e who m~y desire <br />to speak to the Oouncil. <br /> Mr. Johnson Neely~ addressed the 0ounoil in reference to the inability of~ the Confederate <br />Veterans Association to secure a band for-Memorial Day an~ stated that a band of 12 could be <br />secured-for $60.00, and asked that if possible, Oouneil appropriate $60.00 for this purpose. <br /> Mr. Brooks m~ved tha$ am the p~yment for a b~nd-for ~his~ purpose would be in the n~ture <br />of special advertising the 0ity, the City Manager be authorized to spend $60.00 from the Special <br />Advertising Fund for. this band. B. Moore for time <br />lost on account of injuries to his <br />~utomobile while searching for two hold-up men who had broken into the sa~e of the Dwlnell- <br />Wright Oo~fee <br /> It is recommended that Nfl Moore be paid for 13 days tim? lost $ $~-95 per day, <br />amounting to $64.35, out of appropriation in the ~adget for Salaries, police D~artment. <br /> <br /> Recommendation of the Manager that the City purchase certain additional l~nd which it is <br />advisable ko pu~ohase in ~rder to secure i~Arther control of the watershed of ~ke Eilby, the <br />price asked ~the owner being $1,600,00 or $100.00 per acre, payment therefor to be made out <br />of the Water Department funds. <br /> It is recommended that $1,600.00 be allowed to p~urchase this land, out o~ water De- <br />par t~ent funds. <br /> <br /> Reports of the 0ity Treasurer, 0ity Collector, and 0ity Auditor for the month of April, 1926. <br /> We have examined ss~id reports and it is recommended that they be filed. <br /> <br /> Bill of D~. Edw. T. Glover to amount of $25.00, for ~ testifying in the case of Nathaniei <br />Alston. <br /> Progress as to ~ame. <br /> <br /> Bill of J. N. Emight, shorthand reporter, to amount of $63. 50, one-half fee for reporting <br />case and transcript of testimony in the case of Nathaniel Alston vs. the Norfolk & Portsmouth <br />Belt Line R. R. and the City of Portsmouth. <br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation of $63. 50 be allowed to pay said bill. <br /> <br /> Oomm~nieation from the Elm Ave. 0ommmnit~ League requestin~ that sidewalks be ladd leading <br />to and around the new Robert E.
