November 23, 1926 <br /> <br /> On motion, the ~privitege of the floor was granted to Mr. Mulvey, who explained the report <br />cf the Board. <br /> On mo~i~n:~cf Mr, Cast, the repo.r~ was .referred to .the Finauoe 0ommittee. <br /> <br /> A petition was read from o~rtain property owners liv~ng on Armstrong street, between Holla- <br />day and B streets, that said street be paved; and on motion of Er. Mayo, same was referred to <br />the 0ity Man3ger. <br /> <br /> The following communication was <br />Americ~us: <br /> <br />City 0ouncil, <br />~i~y Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />read from Portsmouth Counoit No. ?0, Order Fraternal <br /> "Portsmouth, Va., November ll, 1926. <br /> <br />Hon. Gentlemen: <br /> At a mee~img of Portsmouth Council $?O Order Fraternal Americans in V~rginia <br />affiliated with the Jr. O.U. AJ~M. of the United States, a motion was adopted to cc~mmunzcate <br />with your. Hen. body to most ~igorously protest the 0ity Manager extremely~ hasty, and unprece- <br />dented contemplated action of removing the present Chief of Police Maj. Jas. Talbot, as. he <br />is spoken of in the highest terms by. everyone for his honesty, faithfal in discharge of his <br />duties and ~e believe~ he can fill the office of Chief of Police more efficiently if he is <br />s~mstained by the Oity Msa~mger. <br /> Very truly, <br /> <br />L~wis E. Barnes, President." <br /> <br />On motion of Dr. D~nford, the_commnication was received and filed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mayo moved that the Oity Manager be instructed to present an ordinance to protect <br />passengers to and from street oars on the corner of High and Crawford streets. <br /> The motionwam ,~las~t by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes~ Brocks, Mayo, 2. <br />Nays-- Dunford, Ws~pin, Oast, Stewart, White, 5. <br /> <br /> Then Mr. ~nite moved that the m~tter be referred to the Oity ~.uager. <br />adopted. <br /> <br />The motion.was <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. White, the privilege of the floor was granted to 2~r. Thurlow Etheridge, <br />who representmd the LaFayette Golf 01ub. Mr. E%heridge requested tha~ a la~ger golf course <br />be ~established by the City, that the golf course be opened on Sunday mornings, tha~ green fees <br />be charged on Sundays as well as other days of the week, and that the gree~fees be 'increased by <br />5o%. <br /> On mo~ion of Mr. Maupin, the matter was referred to the City Manager for investigation <br />and report. <br /> <br />On motion, <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
