Dear Sir:-- This letter follows our conversation of l~sz week regarding the list of forty-three applications for service outside of the City limits of Portsmouth, which was i~rnished D~. Vernon A. B~ooks, N~yor of Portsmouth, in November last, and about which you wrote me under date of Decembez 7- An estimate has been prepared by our Engineering Department, which indicates that we will be able To i~rnish relief to the congested cables in the various outlying ~ections and complete all of these pending orders outside of the City limits by the construction of several c~ble~leads involving a comparatively sm~ll expenditure for plant within the city limits of Portsmouth. ~s stated to you in our conversation, we will be very glad to p~oceed with the construction provided under this estimate, ~nd insts~ll all ~f these pending applications outside of the city limits (forty-~nree in number) if there is no objection by the city authorities to the placing of the necessary intermediate cable within the limits of the city. The cable leads under this job Trom our central office ~o the city limits will provide facilities for furnishing service to subscribers within oermain sections of t4e city who are located along these leads. Ther~ is now one order bn the list of twelve city applications furnished to D~. Brooks- and two orders since received, which could be completed through the new cable in questian, and we would use this cable for comple~ing~y other city applications which might be received hereafter, accessible to and along this route.
