Lewis Thom~s: <br /> <br />Honorable Oity Oouncil, <br />Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />"Portsmouth, <br /> <br />Virginia, <br /> <br />N~rch 16th, 1927. <br /> <br />~en~lemen:-- <br /> <br /> About August the loth of last year, an ~oplication for a permit to erect a filling <br />station on Broad Street n~ar Oh~utauqua Avenue was filed by-~the Standard Oil Company. The <br />Oom~any represented to 'the building inspector that it had.~omplied with the ordinance con- <br />cernimg the erection~f the filling station and had-the consent of the adjoining property <br />owner, the m~jority of the buildings already within a 200 foot radius being resideficeg. John <br />High, the owner of the .lot adjoining the site of the proposed service station on the west, did <br />not consent to the erection of such station. With the misleading information which it l~ad- <br />at that time, the oouncil granted the permit for the erection of the station. <br /> <br /> I am now, on behalf of $ohn High, bringing to your attention the fact that the <br />permit was obtained upon a misrepresentation and had the fact been known, the 'council probably <br />would not have granted the permission for the erection of this s~tion. In be~lf of my <br />c~ient, I am ~espectfmily requesting the 0ouncil to revoke the permit heretofore granted. <br /> <br />Very respectfuily yours, <br /> <br />J.
