October

greatly appreciate the City of Portsmouth removing the trees on the north side of this block.
We ~sk this favor for three reasons the first being:

(1) No city in its business district has trees te obstruct its businesses.

(2) X% was not long ago that the city was held liable for a damage suit that was caused
by one limb of a tree failing and breaking the top of an antomobile; such as the case was could
be termed-mild, in the event that such ~u accident would occur upon a hums~u being the case
would be muchmore serious.

(3) It is understood tha~ the Colony theatre is going to e~ect a tremendous electric sign.
We the merchants of the fou~ hundred block deem that such a step toward civic progress, is more
v~luable to us tha~ ~ree to our business and again we would thank you gentlemen to help Ports-
mouth first, the merchants of the four hundred block secondly, and the Oolony theatre manage-
men~ third for taking such a step toward civic progress,

Oolony Theatre Jerome Goodman

L.
