We have
ab~tanceof $37.?~ smd September's bills.have not been pa~d. I have watched the consumption
of g~soline very closely and have put limits on most of the cars, but with our motor equipmen~
in thevarious departments oonstamtly rendering service to the citizens, it is ~lp~ra.lly ~
hard m~tter to keep the ~ppropriation for gasoline down very low. However, I will contimue
to check up on its use. We will have a rebate of approximately $1,200. from the State which
will go into the Treasury. I recommend that an appropriation of $1500.0Q be made to care
for the remainder of the year. Even with additional oars and increased service, the gas bill
will not be larger this year than in 1926.

2. With reference to an appropriation of ~O0. for 0oroner's Incuests for the remainder
of the year, I have looked into this m~tter and find we now have on h~d approximately $230.00
in hills and this money will appaLrently ~e ~eeded to care for the remainder of the year.
recommend that the necessary appropriation bE $~. be made.

3. I have investigated complaint of Mrs. Ohas. A. ~oster calling attention to conditio~
of a d~ainbetween the props=ties of E. L. Price andS. ~oster, located near the cor~e~ of
Harrison and Washington ets. t find there are many places throughout the city in eimila~ eom-
ditionY The Oity Engineer and I have gone over these matters and when we consider the budget
I will submit some data which is being prepared now. This will give us mo~e light not only
on this par~icu&ar situation but on the others as well.

~, I have taken mp with the Virginia Electric & Power Company the m~tter referred to me
relative to the petition of the merchants of Orawfo~d ~St. that some action be ~Jzen to create
a "White WaY' lighti~gsystem on Orawford St. south cE High St. An estimate will be prepared
by the ~Power Company and upon receipt of same, I will report further to your body.

to peti~iom of cerSain property owners a_ud business men on C~awford St. to
south o~ High St. (west side) smooth surfaced, I have requested the Engineer-
