<br /> The Bridge Committee, through Mr. VErnon. Brooks, Chairm~, presented the
<br />following Bill without recommendation, and notified the Oounczl that he was calling asp ecial
<br />meeting of the 0ouncil for Tuesday, January 31st, at 8 p. m., to consider the same, the said
<br />meeting to be open to any ~itizen~ who may be interested in the said bridge:

<br /> A Bill to create ~he Elizabeth Rive~Bridge Authority, and to defi~e the powers a~d duties
<br />of such Authority.
<br />
<br />The following co~mmunications were read from the Czty. Eaneger~,:

<br /> ist. ~bmitted report of the following lots sold in O~ Grove Cemetery during the month
<br />of December, 1927:

<br />Decembe~ 20th, to Mrs. Elnor G. Borum, No. 726 S.H., Ave. H.

<br /> On motion, the Oity Attorney was instructed to draft a deed for the let sold and the
<br />proper 0ity Officials were authorized to execute s~me.

<br /> 2nd. "I have received check from the Norfolk County Board-of Supervisors, made payable
<br />to the City of Portsm~uth~ for $1105.15, and will receive ~uother check f~om the same source
<br />iuthe amount of $25.00, which will complete their share of the cost of imS~lling the heating
<br />plant in the Court House building, the County havingpaid their one-half of flue direct, amount-
<br />ing to $215.00.

<br /> As the check is m~de ~ayable to the City of Portsmouth, I reqmest that the amount
<br /> be re-appropriated to General Government- Repairs to Buildings, so that the bills
<br />can be paid through the proper channel."

<br />meeting of Council.

<br /> 3rd. "The petition of Levi C. Rooks to be refunded $10.OO,~paid in error for shoe.repair-
<br />ing. license h~s be~n investigated by me thrgugkLioense Inspector Mathews ~e ~epe~s to
<br />me that the machine, s the same type of machmne that ref~ was recently gr~m~e~lD~i.
<br />therefore, recommend that the sum"of $10.00 be ref~uded to Levi ~. Rooks."

<br /> On motion of Dr. Dunford, the recommendation of the Manager was concurred in, ~ud m
<br />~.speciat appropriation of $10,00 was allowed to make the refund.

<br /> ~th. "I h~ve gone thoroughly into the petition of the residents of Washington St. and
<br />vicinity relative to bus service, which was referred to me by your body and ~ making fiz~l
<br />report. You doubtless remember that a similar petition came before you a short while back
<br />a~d was referred to me. At that time, I reported to you that it was unsafe for a bus line
<br />to operate on Washington St. I am still of that opinion ~ud sm furnishing you the ~ollowing
<br />information for your consideration.

<br /> I ha~e information from the person who handled all claims of the former Consolidated
<br />Bus Company that 65 to yO% of the bus accid~nts occurring during 1923, ~2~ and '25 on Prentis
<br />Park Line were o~ Washington St., that two people were killed and eighteen injured on this
<br />street. The roadway is 16 ft. wide f~om curb to curb. ~ne old buses are ?'8" wide ~ud the
<br />new buses 8' 3" wide. If ~ ca~ is pa~ked however little~way from the curb, ~ bus could not
