Hanrahau, <br /> <br />City ~uager." <br /> <br /> The following is the amendment recommended: <br /> <br /> "Each person, firm, or corporation operating inter-turban freight vans or trucks over the <br />streets of the 0ity aud doing business in the Cii~, f~r each van or truck, as follows: <br /> Vehicles with a rated carrying capacity as given by mauufacturer of l½ tons or less, one- <br />fifth of one cent per each toe mile based upon ~id rated tonnage multiplied by the total number <br />of miles to be travelled by said vehicle over the city streets during the year for which the <br />license is issued. <br /> <br /> Vehicles Wi~h a rated carrying capacity as given b~ m~nufacturer of over 1½ tons-and not <br />over 3 tons if equipped~with solid tires,~and not ove~ four tons if e~ipped with pneumatice <br />tires two-fifths of one cent per ton mile based on sa~d rated tonnage multipliedby the total <br />number of miles to be travelled by said-vehiole~ over the city streets during the year for- <br />which the license is issued. <br /> <br /> Vehicles with a rated carrying capacity ~s given by the manufacturer of over 3 tons if <br />equipped with soli~ tires and~over four tons if equipped with pneumatic tires, and not exceeding <br />five tons if equippedu~ith solid tires,~and not exceeding six tons if ~qfdippedwithpneumatig~?~ <br />tires shall each be charged and pay three-fifths of one cent per ton m~le based upon such ra~ea <br />tonnage multiplied by the total number of miles to be travelled by said vehicle over the streets <br />of the city during the year-for which the license is issued, <br /> <br /> Vehicles operating under certificate E issued by the State Oorporation Commission of Vir- <br />ginia- $21.OO. <br /> <br /> Provided no motor vehicle shall be licensed to carry loads including its own weimar in <br />excess of ten tons, and the foregoing provisions as to vehicles carrying property shall not <br />apply to baggage of passengers trs~usported by the inter-urban passenger buses. <br /> <br /> Each person, firm or corporation operating inter-urban passenger motor vehicles through <br />or over the streets of the Oity and doing business in said city for each vehicle as follows: <br /> <br /> Vehicles weighing less than 3000 pounds 1/50 cent per passenger seat multiplied by the <br />total number miles sai~ vehicle is ex~eoted to travel over the streets of the city during the <br />yee~ for whish the license is issued. <br /> <br /> Vehicles weighing over 3000 pounds and less than 8500 pounds 1/~O cent per each passenger <br />seat m-~ultiplied by the total number of miles sa~ vehicle is expected to travel over the streets <br />of the city during the year for which the license is issued. <br /> <br /> Vehicles weighing oyer 8500 pounds 1/30. cent per each passenge~ se~t for one-half of the <br />seating capacity, andl/40 cent ~or the remaining half of the seating capacity multiplied~by <br />the total number of miles said vehicle is expected to travel over the streets of the city during <br />the year for which the license is issued. <br /> <br /> T~e total number of seats, weights and mil~age travelled by any of the vehicles shall be <br />determined by the' records of ~the State Oorporation Oommissm0n of Virginia, and when not so de- <br />termined shall be determined by the City Manager of the City of Portsmouth." <br /> <br />~r. 'Shits moved that the ~dment recommended be adopted. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> In connection with the tax ordinance, the following oommumicatio~s were also read from <br />the City Manager: <br /> "Portsmouth, V~., April 24th, 1928. <br />Honorable City Oou~cil, <br />Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:- <br /> Attached you~will find a letter ~ddressed to me from J. ~. ~iller, President of <br />the Oonsumers Ice Company~'i~ reference to lowering tax on small ice plants.
