<br />1928, at a salary of $125.00 per month, vice W. L. Walker, deceased.

<br />cident which occurred on Saturday, Feb.-4th, 1928. One of our sewer trucks~ carrying the
<br />sewer maintenance force was going north on Dinwiddie St. from County, and at thenorth curb
<br />line of King St., one Tilton B? Cherry (colored), fell from ~he 'truck~ striking his head on
<br />the pavement, was rendered~ insensible and never regained comsciousness, dying on F~bruary
<br />5t~t 8:20 P. M. The accident was investigated and the City Attorney handled the'~matter-~
<br />innxs opinion the City's~respSnsibility Under the Compensation Act wilI-be $9~00 per~wee~ for
<br />three hundred weeks iplus $100.00 for burial expenses. Thms amount was awarded by ~he"indus-
<br />trial Commission of!Virgini~
<br />special appropriation for t~e rema~nder'of the year, pr6vided we usW~'the money from~"0urpen~ion
<br />fUnd. The Oity Clerk & Auditor informed me today that there would b~ sufficient funds for
<br />that purpose, the greatest part of the money coming from a balance left, due to' the death of
<br />those carried in this fund.

<br /> This matter was referred to you on Feb.14th and a~. that time I informed you that it had
<br />been referred to the 0ity A~ttorney and report forwarded to the industrial 0ommission for in-
<br />vestigation and decision as to settlement. I would suggest that you approve this action and
<br />authorize settlement as per ~ward of t~e'~Indust~ial 0ommission. Attached you will find. copies
<br />of correspondence containing complete information as to the accident," ~
