<br /> A resolution to authorize and direct ~he~i~y-Clerk of the City of Portsmouth to advertise
<br />for ten days the form of ordinance and Form of contract attached hereto 'as a part hereof,
<br />specifying the work to be done and perfo~ed by Virginia Electric and Power Company under
<br /> - ~.~op~ea August ~a~ ~o, under which sa_m
<br />sub-section (d) of section 14 of them ordinance, .......... ~ ~'
<br />company operates the street radlway system in said oity~ and relieving said comply of any
<br />duty or o~igation zo do or perfform amy other or further work required by said s~o-seczion.

<br /> Section 1. That the City Clerk of said city be~ and he is hereby,, authorized and directed
<br />to adverlise in the Port~uouth Star, a newspaper p~blished in said city, for ten days. the form
<br />of ordinance ~ud form of contract attached heretO as a part hereof, specifying the work to be
<br />done ~ud performed by Virginia Electric and Power C0mpany~ under sub-section ~d) of section
<br />14 of the ordinance, adopted Au~ast 2?th, 1926, ,mnder which, said company operates its street
<br />railway system in said city, and relieving ~ud discharging it from any duty or obligation
<br />to do, or perform s~y other or further work res?aired'by said sub-section.

<br /> Section 2. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from sfnd after irs passage~~
<br />
<br /> An Ordinar~ce to authorize ~ud direct the exeuotion of a contract between the CiTY OF
<br />PORTSMOUTH & the VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POW"ER CO~PANY-to-soecify the work to be done by the
<br />Virginia Electric and Power Company ~uder sub-section (D)- of Section l~ of the Srdinance
<br />adopted Au~ast 2yth, 1926, by which said Virginia Electri5 ~ud Power Company. was granted a
<br />street railway Franchise in said city, and to relieve said company from any further duty or
<br />obligation imposed upon iz by said sub-section,~a copy of which contract is attached hereto,
<br />as a part hereof.

<br /> On motion of Dr. Dunford, the resolution was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> The ordinance was ~hiddn the table until a special meeting of Cou~ucil~ which the Presi-
<br />dent stated he would call for July 30th at 8 o~clock p. m., for final consideration of se~e.

<br /> In reference to the two ogdi~anoes ~e!ative to the ~ater~Department, which had been
<br />placed on first reading by Council Ray 8th, the City Attorney presented the following ordinance
<br />in substitution therefor:

<br /> An Ordir~uoe zo Amend and Re-ordain Section 306 of m~ Ordinance entitled, ~An Ordinance
<br />to amend and re-ordain Sections 306-to 329, inclusive, Chapter 21, of the City Code,~ adopted
<br />by the ~ouncil of the City of Portsmouth on the lyth day off June, 1920, relating to ~he furnish-
<br />ing of water to cons%umers, requiring contracts of deposits from oons~m-aers, etc.

<br />On motion of Mr. White, the ordinance was placed on first reading.
<br />
<br /> The 0ity Eanager presented the following ordinance as requested by the Superintendent of
<br />the Portsmouth Water Department:

<br /> An Ordinance mo Amend and Re-ordain Section 309 ~ an Ormznanue Entitled, ~An Ordir~nce
<br />to Amend and Re-ordain sections 306 to 329, inclusive, Chapter 21~ of the City Code,~ relating
<br />to service for firs hydrants~
<br />
<br /> On motion of ~r. ~$.ite, the ordinance was placed on first readir~ and referred mo the
<br />City Attorney. for report on same at the next regular meeting of Council~
<br />
<br /> ~ir. Eayo moved that the City Eanager study the traffic problem at the corner of Elm Avenue
<br />and High street aud Elm Avenue and South Street~ wzth ~he. vze ~. of working out relief at the
<br />said corners. The ~tion was adopted.
