<br /> The minu~es of the reg.ular meeting August 14th, at 8 p. m., and joint meeting with Norfolk
<br />County Supervmsors Au~ust 14th, at IIa. m., were read and were approved.

<br /> The following communications were read from the City Ms~uager:
<br /> lst~ "I beg to annou~uce
<br />the appointment of Mr~ W~ J. Eorgan to the re~la~ police force, effective this date." On motion, the notice was ordered to be filed.

<br /> 2nd. ~I beg to ~unounoe the appointment of the following to the substitute police force
<br />of the City: J. Shirley Hope; Benjamin Ellsworth ~udrews; Wm~ J~mee Catlett; Jesse Paul Eure;
<br />Jo~hn J. Nobreg~, Jr."
<br /> On motion, the notice was ordered to be filed.
<br /> 3rd. "Attached you will find alette= from J. W. Leafs, se~ting forth facts in regard
<br />to work done by him as secretary of the special Gr~nd .Jury, which investigated reports con-
<br />cerning the Police Department of the City.
<br />
<br /> The bill, in the amount of $25.00, approved by the Judge, cove~ing services of the
<br /> Secretary, has-been~ presented to the Co~ucil and refer~ed to me for investigation.~

<br /> In accordance with a reouest from your Office in regard to the clerical work ex-
<br />pended on the labors of the Special 'Grand Jury called in June for investigation ~f certain
<br />charges brought to the notice of the Court, through and by some candidates for Office in the
<br />Prim~ry election for City councilmen, I beg to say that all the evidence given before the
<br />Grand Jury Was taken down by m~ on each day the Grand Jury was in session.
<br />
<br /> ~At the conclusion of each day the evidence.was sorted out, ~ud only ~uch evidence
<br />as was direct, and could be proved was re-written by me~ and brought before the Gr~ud Jury
<br />for confirmation at the next meeting.
<br />
<br /> After all the evidence was in and passed on by the Grand Jury, the entire matter
<br />was re-written and typed by myself in my own Office, ~ud the reports for the court out in
<br />type-w2itten shape, which work was done after the days Jury work was over in Court.

<br />IN ANTICIPATION OF ~qE COLLECTION OF THE REVENUE FOR TF~ YEAR 1928, AND PROVIDING FOR THE IS-
<br />SUANOE OF A NOTE OR NOTES THEREFOR.

<br />On motion of Er. '~hite, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> Er. White moved that the ordinance be amended by adding the following Section: "~. This
<br />ordinance sh~ll take effect from and after November lO, 1928.~ The amendment was adopted.
<br /> ~r. Dunford moved that the ordinance be adopted, as amended, a~ud same was adopted, as
<br />amended by the following vote:
<br /> Ayes-- Brooks, Dunford, Maupin~. Me;ye, Stewart, White, 6.

<br />NEW BUSINESS
<br />
<br /> A bill was received from J. Shirley Hooe, State Game ~arden, to amount of $167,50, for
<br />services rendered in destroying 67 tagless ~ogs @ $2~50 each.
<br /> On motion, the Treasurer was authorized to pay same, out of fu~uds on hand from collection
<br />of Dog Taxes.
