October 9, !928 <br /> <br /> A bill was received from J. Shirley Hope~ State Game Warden, to amount of $67450, for <br />servm~es rendered mn destroymng 27 ta~less dogs ~ ~2.50 each. <br /> On motion of Dr. Dunford, 2he Treasurer was authorized to pay same, out of funds on <br />hand from collection of Dog Taxes. <br /> A request was read from Chas. P. Hollomon to be refunded $16.O0 paid in error on license <br />tax on Hair D=essing Parlor for the years 192Y~a~d1928~ as he has only one chair in the place <br />of business. <br /> On motion, the r~ouest was referred to the City Manager and City Attorney. <br /> The School-Budget for 1929, which was adopted by the School Board on October 5, 1928, was <br />received. <br /> On motion of Er. O~st~ the same was referred to the 1929 Budget for consideration. <br /> A oetition was read from the City Realty Corpora~mon, by ~ounsel, to be re=un,e9 ~[2.~7 <br /> ~ ~ ~ ~ ~t ~f ~ro~er~V on the north side of King street, between Green aaa Gnesznu~ · <br /> ~r~ ~i~rt~ b~gi~s ~3 feet, more or less, west of Green street, for the years <br /> 1923, 1924, and 1925; and to be exonerated from payment of taxes on said l~ue for the years <br /> 19 7, and <br /> On motion of D~. Dunford, the communication was referred to the City Attorney. <br /> Er. Stewart presented the following resolution, which was unanimously adopted: <br /> "~HEREA$, the Council of the City. of Portsmouth has learned with regret that the Navy <br /> Department has seen fit to transfer Oaptain Henry Williams, Industrial Eanager, No=folk Navy <br /> Yard, to ¥?ashington, D. C., and, <br /> <br /> ~R~AS~ the City Council on behalf of the citizens of Portsmouth, expresses its appre- <br /> ciation fo~ th~ efficient service rendered ~y Captain ~m~?m~, whmcn.~erv~e ~as ~.au~so~ <br /> much ~o the efficiency of the Yard and the nigh morale wn~cn ms so no~mceao~e ~o a±±, mne aesp <br /> interest shown by~Q~im in ~l public work and his splendid spirit of co-operation in the general <br /> welfare of this comm~ni~y, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, T~at the members of the City Council of the City of Portsmouth convey <br /> to Captain Henry Williams thi~ expression of themr respect ~ud esteem for the splendid efforts <br /> put forth by~im for the welfare of our City ~ud the entire co~muity. We regret that he must <br /> leave the Norfolk Navy Yard. The City Counc%l records this our feeling toward him and assure <br /> him of our sincere ~ppreciation of the splendid spirit of co-operation shown by him during his <br /> stay with us. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURT~R RESOLVED, That this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Co~ucil <br /> of the City of Portsmouth and that a copy be delivered to Captain ~illiams." <br /> <br /> Er. ~ite moved that the City Eauager be instracted to t~ke up with the State Highway <br /> Commi~-sion at its next meeting in Petersburg the neglect by the Commission of the State highways <br /> leading from Portsmouth. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
