SEPTEMBER 12, 1995 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this practice of selective harvesting and sale of <br />timber at golf courses has been successfully accomplished at <br />golf courses in Virginia and surrounding states; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has <br />requested proposals in accordance with Section 2.09 of the <br />Char~er of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, for the selective <br />harvesting and sale of timber to a timber harvesting company and <br />has determined the proposal of Swain and Temple Logging Company <br />to be in the best interest of the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation will <br />prepare the contract and administer the sale and careful <br />harvesting so as to best protect Bide-A-Wee Golf Course from <br />damage from the timber harvest and subsequent clean-up <br />activities. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Pprtsmouth, Virginia, that the harvesting and sale of <br />seleDted trees on the Bide-A-Wee Golf Course property by the <br />Swain and Temple Logging Company be, and hereby is, authorized <br />as b~ing in the best interest of the City of Portsmouth." <br />Ayes~ Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Naysl: None <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to <br />authprize the Acting City ~anager to enter into a sales contract <br />with~Swain and Temple Logging Company, and was adopted by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes~ Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays. None <br /> <br />95-4~1 - Letter from the Acting C~ty Manager reconunending <br />adoption of a resolution authorizing the Acting City Manager to <br />execute a sixth amendment to the Development Agreement with <br />PortSmouth Parkside Development Associates for Phase II of the <br />Cra~ford Condominium Project. <br /> <br /> "Portsmouth Parkside Development Associates has requested <br />an extension for its completion date for the Crawford Square <br />CondOminium Project until July 31, 1996. The Board of <br />Commissioners of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />Authority has authorized its Executive Director to enter into <br />such/an extension upon City Council's authorization for the <br />Ac~ing City Manager to execute such an amendment. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend adoption of this resolution <br />authorizing execution of an a~endment extending the completion <br />da~e for this project to July 31, 1996." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to defer <br />consideration of this item until the regular meeting of October <br />24, ~995, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />95-422 Letter from the Acting City Manager recommending <br />adoption of a resolution endorsing a joint application for <br />fu~d~ from the Department of Transportation to purchase <br />alternative fuel vehicles. <br /> <br /> "The City of Portsmouth has learned of the availability of <br />grants through the Virginia Alternative Fuels Revolving Fund. <br />If approved for a grant, the Deputy City Manager reco~anends <br />a pilot project be initiated that would involve purchasing <br />veki~les dedicated to using natural gas and retrofitting current <br />ve~i~les for bi-fuel use. Additionally, one PRHA vehicle will <br />be Dnverted to electricity. The grant would also fund the cos~ <br />of d~ta collection to determine cost and operation efficiency. <br /> <br /> <br />
