~arch 12~ 1929 Th~ Council received an invitation to attend a meeting of the Machinists-at the City Audito=ium, March 19th, at 8 p. m., at Which meeting there will be speaking and music. The Clerk was instructed to acknowledge receipt of the invitation and to say that as many members of the council as could attend would be present. On motion, the report was erdered to be The following communication was read: Members of the City Council, Portsmouth, Va. filed. "New York, N.Y., February 23, 1929~ Dear Sirs: The City Collector of your City is threatening to levy on my property in your city to pay~ certain taxes charged against 122~ Queen Street. I sold this property about fifteen yee~vs ago to ~he Portsmouth Coal and Ice Company and all taxes w~re paid by me up to the time of sale. For some reason the property has continued to be assessed in my name, although I understand it was also ~ssessed to the Portsmouth Coal and Ice Company. I ~m asking you to please relieve me of the taxes assessed in my name against the above property, and I do not wan~ the City Collector to bother my Effingh~a Street property to pay the same.
