- <br /> <br />February 25, 1930 <br /> <br />(Dr. Dunford excused from further attendance) <br /> <br /> The resolution to authorize and request the Board of Sinking Fund 0ommissionersto cancel <br />note of. the City of Portsmouth given to said Board, to amount of $112,585.30, which had been <br />l~id on the table until this'meeting of Council, on motion of'Mr. Stewart, was continued <br />on the table. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />The following communication was read from the Trustees of Oottage Place 2. E. 0hutch: <br /> <br />"Portsmouth, Va., F~b~uary 18, 1930. <br /> <br />The Honorable Oity Oouncil, <br />Portsmouth, Virgini&. <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br /> We had a letter dated J~nuary 303 1930, <br />calling our attention to the' deli~qment city taxes <br />Street, listed against D. E. Baldwin. <br /> <br />from ~iss Edna E. Hutcheson, City Collector, <br />for the year 1927 on property ~2015 Queen <br /> <br /> This property was purchased by the Cottage Place ~. E. 0hutch for a parsonage, <br />April 28, 1927, the deed being admitted to record the following day. Inasmuch as this pro- <br />perry wasowned-by the Church more tha~ two~thirds of the year 1927~ ~nd our a-t~orney not <br />advising otherwise, the trustees wereof the opi~ion that no taxes would have to be paid by <br />the Church fe~-that yea~; Your Honorable body is therefore requested b~ ~he congregation <br />of this Ohuroh to relieve themof these taxes for the year of 192y, or at least that part <br />of the year which the proper~y was owned~by the Ohuroh. <br /> <br />Veryrespectfully, <br /> <br />Trustees 0ottagePlace 2. E~ 0hutch, <br /> S. 2. RIPLEY, Ohairman." <br /> <br />On motion, the communication was referred tO the City Attorney. <br /> <br /> A bill was received from J. Shirley Hope, State Game Warden, to amount of $310.00, for <br />services r~nde~ed in destroying 125 tagless dogs @ $2.50 each. <br /> On motion, the Treasurer was authorized to pay s~id bill, out of funds on hand from <br />collection of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br />A report was received from F~ed F. Ames & Company, certified public accountants, of the <br />· audit of the ~ooks and accounts of the Norfolk County Ferries for the month of January~ 1930. <br /> On motion, the report was received and ordered to be filed. <br /> <br />On mo~ion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
