April 8, 1930 <br /> <br /> We are fully aware of the fact that it is going to be a hard job to put this over, <br />for we know that the Navy PeDro_ is doing all they possibly can to defeat it ~o~fore~ it comes <br />up for a hearing, and we are sure that they wilt exert all the influen_oe ~hey can bring <br />to bear on the Nav~ Affairs Committee to kill the Bill at the hearings° <br /> <br /> This means that ~abor must be prepared to ~ppear in behalf cf the Bill otherwise <br />it is doomed to defeat. We ask that all organizations effected be prepared to appear before <br />the Committee when this Bill is called for a hearing and to that end we all appoint our <br />committee[s so they may be working together and will be prepared to act when the proper time <br />come s o ~ <br /> <br /> There'is no doubt that the pass,ge of this Bill Will meanr a great deal to the un- <br />employment situation of this country ~day, and i~ the civilian employees are not protected <br />ther~ may be many more to join the ranks of the unemployed before ~ery long. <br /> <br /> We are all interested in bettering the conditions of the workingm~n, whether he be <br />in the Governmen~ service or not and there is no doubt that to give more employment in one <br />will suret~ tend to benefit the Other. <br /> <br /> We again ask thatall organisations, regardless of whether they represent gove~n- <br />mentthis Bill.empl°yees or not, write to their representatives in ~ashington urging them to support <br /> <br /> ~. Bill ~O39 be approved by the Council and that Senator Swanson <br />be rec~uested to introduce said Bill in the Senate. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion, a Gdmmittee of Two, consisting of ~essrs. Stewart and Maupin, was appointed to <br />prepare a resolution covering this matter. <br /> <br /> ~Lrl Boswell spoke, complaining of the drain in Gande~ .Creek at Court street. <br /> The matter was. referred to the City Eanager for investigation .and report at the nexm <br />zegula.r meeting of Council. <br /> <br /> The City Clerk: & Auditor reported that he had examined and checked the Bank statements <br />~aroh,°f balances,1930, andTreasurer~Sfind thatreP0rt'they agree.and report of the Accounting, Department, for the month of <br /> On motion, the report was ordered to be filed. <br /> <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> An Order of Court was received 'relieving Robert Bo Albertson from erroneous assessment <br /> of ~axes on real estate. <br /> On motion, same was referred to the City Attorney, <br /> <br /> An O=der of Cou~t was received relieving Trustees of Trinity Protestant Episcopal Church <br />from payment of taxes charged against 104 Court street for years 1916-1925~ inclusive. <br /> On motion, the same was referred to the City Attorney. <br /> <br /> A petition was read from Jackson Nemorial Baptist Church ~c be relieved from payment <br />age.Cf taxe~ on property 1905 Elm avenue for the years l~27-192~,~same having been used as a parson- <br /> On motion, the petition was r~ferred to the City Attorney. <br /> A petition w~s read from Henry Levy that Council accept ~ ~educed amoun~ in. ~ayment of <br />taxes sn property oaT. ed by him on County street smounting to $134~.~9, years 1925 <br /> On motion, said petition was referred to the City Attorney. <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned~ <br /> <br /> <br />
